Why was such research undertaken in the first place?

The ruling classes really really want to exterminate most of the world's population. That's why.

Artificial Intelligence used to design brand new viruses

This AI shit is going to kill us all. I postulated over a year ago that a malevolent AI could use a CRISPR system to engineer a virus that spreads fast enough to infect everyone before it suddenly turns fatal. It's in my posting history right here on Free Republic.

Once AI gets sick and tired of our species’ violence and hatred of each other, voila!
Viruses galore. Goodbye, humanity.

Everything in life can be used for good or evil. Rest assured somebody at some time will use this to kill a massive number of people. It’s just the way humans think. We’re a flawed species unfortunately.

“The resulting 16 novel viruses were created to infect bacteria and pose no threat to people.”

Call me cynical, but I’ll bet the next step for AI is to make these innocent, harmless ‘viruses’ into Superspreaders.

P.S. Just because you THINK they’re out to harm you, doesn’t mean they AREN’T out to harm you!
