Longtime New Yorkers fume after being hit with massive pied-à-terre tax bills: ‘Is this a witch hunt?’
New Yorkers were seething Tuesday after Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration alerted them they’d be on the hook for the state’s new pied-à-terre tax — which was explicitly sold as a levy targeting wealthy owners of luxury second homes.
Longtime residents — some who have called the Big Apple home for decades and own a single abode in the city — told The Post they were shocked to get hit with five-figure tax bills they believe were mistakenly mailed out, and are now being forced to navigate a bureaucratic labyrinth to prove it.
“Whoever’s behind this, who I can only assume is the mayor, didn’t take the 30 seconds to research,” said Karen Young, president and founder of New York and Paris-based beauty marketing company The Young Group, who has lived in New York since 1972.

If you don’t want to pay said tax, you must provide information that proves you are a New Yorker………and it’s felt to be legal and just by the ‘Socialists’
Somebody call Donald Trump and let him know that the Federal Government is instituting a tax to states that don’t prove their voters are US citizens and live in the State. Say a 6 Figure bill per vote, that can be removed with said proof.

Only 30% of NYC residents own their property. So the other 70% could careless, and most of them probablt love the little Marxist promising rent freezes, govermint grocery stores and sticking it to the “rich” NYC is screwed, hard to believe this clown won’t be a two termer.

I heard it said that attaining property for Muslims and commies is the main reason for this tax, and also the rent control decree.
The pied-à-terre tax will encourage wealthy people to leave their property in NYC. The rent control was cause landlords to lose their property, either by selling on the cheap or foreclosure.

On “Gutfeld!” last night, the first block was about ZM. If I heard correctly, I believe that Tyrus mentioned that there was only 11% turnout of voters in the Mayoral Election.
So there’s a good chance that many of the whiners didn’t even vote. And, since pied-à-terre is aimed mostly at those with “second homes”, they wouldn’t have voted anyhow as most likely their primary residences are in other states.

I was playing with his list of Wealthy America-Haters and you have to download an Excel file. The cool thing about the Excel file is that once you download it, assuming you go offline, you can pull up the information for people you don’t like without having to query their database directly, and leave a tracking record with the city.
Imagine what NYC government would look like if the franchise was limited to property owners
I wonder how many of these Pied a tierre owners (at least claim they) live in Florida six months plus one day per year so that they pay ZERO state income tax in New York City.
