I went into Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey expecting a cinematic event. Instead, I saw one of the worst movies ever made. I made it to the 90-minute mark before walking out, but I really should have bailed a half-hour in.
We have been utterly bamboozled. As someone who appreciates a script that actually works, I can tell you this screenplay is nonsensical. Combine that with unwatchable lighting and completely incomprehensible audio, and the whole production just falls apart on screen. Matt Damon is completely miscast and entirely too soft to play Odysseus. Honestly, the campy old Steve Reeves movies or Sinbad the Sailor pack more entertainment value than this bloated mess.
If anyone tells you this film is good, they are lying. It will not win—let alone be nominated for—a single Oscar. Do yourself a favor and see The Devil Wears Prada 2 or Michael instead. I am not exaggerating when I say that when my time comes to sit in a nursing home, my first request to the Almighty will be for a refund on the 90 minutes I lost to this three-hour joke. No one with an ounce of common sense should sit through it.
I saw the movie, and you’re an idiot here for clicks
Watching this movie is like going to a fancy party where someone tries to get you to eat chicken liver and jalapeño pâté on a Ritz cracker, telling you, “You just have to develop a taste for it, then you’ll love it.” Anyone who tells you that you have to “develop a taste” for something is only saying that because it stinks. Do you have to develop a taste for bacon or potato chips? No.
Yet, people are telling you that you have to “develop an understanding” of what they’re trying to do here. What they are trying to do here is make a lot of money (the director, the actors, the writers, etc.) at the expense of dumbass investors who are going to lose their shirts on this flop.
Prove me wrong. I want to hear from anyone on this forum who went to see this movie and loved it to the point that they will actually see it again. I went home so mad I wanted to slap my Australian Shepherd—who was already mad at me for leaving her alone in the first place. Looking back, she had a look on her face when I walked out the door, trying to tell me not to go. I should have listened to the dog.
You saw this movie, and you are saying it was great? No way. Absolutely no way.
This will be ten times worse on TV, esp with commercials....
Okay, we will see within three weeks if I am wrong or right. There is no way, people are going to prop up this movie.
No one is going to tell their friends to see this, because they know, they will never be respected again for recommending a movie.
This movie sucks wet dog fur...
My wife & I went tom see Odyssey this past week. At nearly three hours the movie is way too long. At least 30 minutes of this movie could be edited out and the continuity maintained. The movie frankly was for the most part boring. My wife and I agreed (which is not always the case) that Odyssey was overhyped. It will be interesting to see how it does in the Academy Awards.
To each their own. I enjoyed the movie.
I know. That’s why I finally went to see it. These people obviously are being paid off. There is no way an honest reviewer is going to give this movie a thumbs up. It is terrible. I am not even talking about following the classic story, forget that. Whoever wrote this, just made stuff up. I know the story, and I had no idea what they were talking about. You are NEVER hooked on this movie. Right out of the gate it is boring, slow, and you want to leave....
I think I read your review on the other posting I had BEFORE I went to see this, yet I went anyway, and you are being kind. PLus, how were you able to stay for the full 3 hours? At the half way point, I looked at my girlfriend, and said do you realize we’re only at the half way point?
“I won’t argue about it’s awfulness but I’m telling you it will sweep the awards circuit. All the woke critics are slobbering over it.”
I agree with you.
The left is monolithic. They will circle the wagons and shower this movie with awards.
Although, in regards to the awards shows, the viewing audience will continue to decline.
Only two ancient culltures had their own scripture. They were the Hebrews with the Old Testament and Homer’s writings were Greek “scripture.” Only his writings were used as textbooks, and the Greeks used them to build an advanced culture and civilization.
I won’t be watching that movie, but I seriously doubt it would advance any culture.
“NO FRIGGIN way this is a rotton tomatoes 95%. No way.”
So the Rotten Tomatoes score is fake.
The audience CinemaScore of ‘A’ is fake.
The $652 million dollars it earned in 10 days is fake.
Maybe just say it’s your opinion that it sucks, because from all indications, it’s a big hit.
We left the movie, then went to get something to eat. About one hour into the dinner, I thought to myself, that movie is still going on in there....When we left there was one guy in the place.
Where do see that it made 650 million. I am saying we are being bamboozled. NO way. NO way. Something is not adding up. I’d like to know how much did they spend to make the ticket sales. It doesn’t add up. But don’t take my word for it. Why not you go see it, and prove me wrong...
On the plus side…
Never before have we seen such frantic and desperate fellating of a movie.
At least the YouTube reviews are fun to watch.
I’d rather watch them than this turd.
You’re right. And some of the youtube reviews said the movie was good and worth watching, but not one was enthusiastic about the movie. I don’t get it. I think Nolan was given a huge budget, and he went out and spent as much as he could. I think a talented director with less money would have made a better film. And here’s the kicker, the movie wasn’t even filmed on Ithaka.
Your comments remind me of when I walked out about 2/3 of the way through the execrable remake of Psycho in 1998.
You bamboozled yourself by going.
Boxofficemojo lists earnings for movies.
Just so you know.
Also, it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if commies are buying tons of tickets to boost sales numbers.
They’ve done it before with book sales of leftist books. Why not movies?
That probably should have been your first post...nikos1121 may have been here for the clicks (he wasn't, I've read his posts before) but you seemed, with your first post, to be here to start a fire!
Heh, just saying! That said, I won't see it until I can watch it free, and it darn well won't be on television!
Two of my harshest criticisms have been the casting that appeared to me to be done with an eye towards the Oscars, and the interpretation of the movie in their roles by the actors, specifically Lupita Nyong'o, which appears to be accepted and encouraged by Nolan, whose work I largely admire up to this point.
Oddly, I just saw one of his movies tonight that I had not seen, and it was sufficiently bizarre, but...not as weird as one of the most bizarre movies I had ever seen, also directed by him. He is unique, that is for sure.
