A California family’s Hawaiian getaway turned to horror when its members were targeted as “haole boys” and viciously beaten by a mob at a luxury Maui resort, leaving one with a huge head wound.
The violent brawl broke out around 10 p.m. on July 17 at the Kaanapali Alii resort in West Maui, where local officers responded to a disturbance involving roughly 30 people near the property’s pool.
Seven visitors from California, ranging in age from 17 to 62, told police they were assaulted after a group of young people allegedly threw chairs and attacked members of their family.
At least six victims suffered injuries serious enough to require medical treatment.
By the time officers arrived, only 10 to 15 people remained at the scene, several with visible injuries, according to the Maui Police Department.
The family, who has not been named, believes they were singled out because they are white and is urging investigators to pursue the case as a hate crime.
Police have not classified the assault as a hate crime.
Family member Joseph Headfield said the violence was preceded by racial threats from a woman he described as the group’s ringleader.
“There were three females, one of which was the ringleader,” Headfield told Hawaii News Now. “She got up in people’s faces, said, ‘We’re going to beat up your boys tonight. We’re going to beat up the haole boys.'”
“Haole” is a Hawaiian term for a person who is not of Native Hawaiian or Polynesian descent and is commonly used to describe white people or non-locals.

My niece’s husband - military officer - was stationed on Oahu for two years - he wanted to extend their time there for another two years - my niece told him “absolutely not” and threatened to divorce him if he did this.
The schools in Hawaii are some of the very worst in the nation - I suspect Whites are threatened there as well. My sister had to pay an exorbitant amount of money for her grand kids to attend private schools.
They are now back in the U.S., in a great area - and the kids enrolled in local public schools.
I have a dear Chinese colleague from Taiwan - he rails constantly about Koreans, calls them all kinds of names, etc., calls them scum, the lowest Asians, etc. Really curious for me.
This same colleague negotiated my latest car at the dealer, he’s an expert and it was all done in Mandarin (I wasn’t even there) - the car came from a dealer run by Chinese. He told me it was all set.
Got there and the new manager, a Korean, came out - my Chinese friend grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me out of there immediately! Deal was off.
He arranged for an even better deal from a different Chinese dealer and I have been very happy with my new car ever since.
My family was there for three years in the early 70’s. That was our experience. The last day of school was “Kill Haole” day.
75 for me. Kill haole day was like the south with same only blacks killing crackers.
I’d graduated HS and some of the friends I made had stories...except punahou, the school my cousin went with Barak Hussein Obama. No kill haole day there.
I have met some people from Hawaii and all of them say Hawaii is the most racist state in the county. Full on anti-white crap all the time. And this was many years ago.
In 2022 my family and I were quietly strolling near the beach in Kona. About a dozen yards or so behind us a giant Hawaiian (maybe somoan?) male came walking briskly behind us shouting at us for being white colonizers and wanted to kick our asses off the island. As he got closer, he became more belligerent. We did nothing to provoke him other than being white tourists. Fortunately we passed by two young men (also white) who got the attention of the giant Hawaiian which gave us enough time to get away. The men were calmly talking to the Hawaiian as we walked away. To this idea I have no idea why that giant took issue with us.
Well there’s azzholes everywhere... no doubt about that.
There’s one group on the islands that doesn’t hate haoles.
When I attended the University of Hawai’i, haole boys were in
high demand by the Japanese-Hawai’ian girls. It was considered
highly desirable that these girls experience the haole package
at least once before marriage.
