A California family’s Hawaiian getaway turned to horror when its members were targeted as “haole boys” and viciously beaten by a mob at a luxury Maui resort, leaving one with a huge head wound.
The violent brawl broke out around 10 p.m. on July 17 at the Kaanapali Alii resort in West Maui, where local officers responded to a disturbance involving roughly 30 people near the property’s pool.
Seven visitors from California, ranging in age from 17 to 62, told police they were assaulted after a group of young people allegedly threw chairs and attacked members of their family.
At least six victims suffered injuries serious enough to require medical treatment.
By the time officers arrived, only 10 to 15 people remained at the scene, several with visible injuries, according to the Maui Police Department.
The family, who has not been named, believes they were singled out because they are white and is urging investigators to pursue the case as a hate crime.
Police have not classified the assault as a hate crime.
Family member Joseph Headfield said the violence was preceded by racial threats from a woman he described as the group’s ringleader.
“There were three females, one of which was the ringleader,” Headfield told Hawaii News Now. “She got up in people’s faces, said, ‘We’re going to beat up your boys tonight. We’re going to beat up the haole boys.'”
“Haole” is a Hawaiian term for a person who is not of Native Hawaiian or Polynesian descent and is commonly used to describe white people or non-locals.

In high school I was friends with a teenage dependent who had just moved from there. Being able to fight and/or run was very important when dealing with the locals per his stories. This was c. 1974.
In short, this is nothing new. It happening in a resort is a little unusual, I suppose.
“Haole” is the n-word and is plain-as-day “fighting words.” Will they be hit with charges the way Shiloh Hendrix was in Minnesota?
I wonder how Hawaii‘s economy will do if white people take a lesson from this and decide to vacation somewhere else?

I've traveled and lived all over the world and have visited 47 US States, and I have never seen such racial hostility!
A Chinese orthodontist friend of mine had an office near LA's Koreatown, but he had no Korean patients. He had a common Chinese name which is also a common Korean name, but when prospective Korean patients called him on the phone and found out that he was Chinese, they would hang up.
Why were the cops not called when this large gang of “youths” started harassing people hours earlier?
The Native Hawaiians love to beat up the Whites and to rob the East Asians (i.e. Japanese and Chinese). They don’t mess with the Samoans (who tend to be physically larger and stronger). They also tend to leave the Filipinos alone unless they want to turn up missing.

You would think not having guests harassed and attacked by feral locals would be kind of important to the resort and to the tourism industry in general. That’s the kind of thing that’s very bad for business.
Decades ago, I watched a local HI woman (Japanese) elbow my little ol’ mother-in-law to cut in line. It wasn’t pretty ... for the local. MIL wasn’t aware that white tourists are supposed to defer to the locals. So she didn’t.
