It's only the THIRD biggest opening of the year, behind "Toy Story 5" and "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie."
TRANSLATION: Not as good as a talking toy and a video game movie.
They don't tell you it likely needs around $800 million worldwide just to break even.
Not to make a profit.
Just to break even.
And the studio typically keeps only about 50–55% of the domestic gate - and less internationally.
And the $139.6 million from 73 international markets is absolutely DISASTROUS for the great Nolan when you consider that his own country, United Kingdom/Ireland, only spent $17.4M...
...with every other territory coming in way less.
And finally, they don't tell you that "Odyssey" only has one more CLEAR weekend before "Spider-Man" webs up the box office.
A huge opening?
Relative.
A financial triumph?
We shall see.

They have to. This was their last chance with ever-increasing p8ssed off investors to “prove” blatantly woke movies can make money.
And factually, right now, it has not proven that. It has quite far to go to conclusively be the only one this year that proves that.

With the film in every IMAX theater a lot of the gross is inflated from tickets that run $30-50 vs the usual $15 ticket price.
7.5 million bought tickets this past weekend to the Odyssey. Those IMAX theaters are there every weekend. There is always a movie benefiting from the higher ticket amounts for the last 20 years or more. Movie goers seek them out since it is a better experience.
It actually speaks well of a movie that one will pay more to see it when right next door, it is $10 cheaper or more.
In two weeks, Spiderman will be in many of those theaters. If you google, you can see exactly how much money is generated based on type of screen.

I’ll be honest - the casting is a crock of woke shit.
I don’t care how many morons pay to watch it - it is woke garbage just based on the casting alone.
Ellen Page now calls herself “Elliot” and now looks like a very petite girl with a short haircut that got her boobs cut off.
They try to make her out to be some kind of warrior... at least they have the sense to have her get killed in the first 5 minutes.. but WTF would they cast her for that part? It’s absurd.
But then there’s the black Helen of Troy - again absurd.
Finally, they cast Matt Damon. I don’t know about you, but he lost his appeal 30 years ago when. He was a young “coming of age” character.
Now, he sucks. Someone talked me into watching The RIP.. I made it through four and a half minutes... what a terrible movie.

Things we've noticed:
• A lot of tickets were bought and are still being bought online, but very few people are actually showing up at the theater, which makes no sense.
• I talked to people from other theater locations, and they're seeing the exact same thing.
I wonder what you all think. There's been a lot of noise about this, especially with what's been going on. Personally, I don't mind because it's been a pretty chill shift with not a lot of work. Spider Man is around the corner, though, and kids and pretty much everyone love Spidey so busy days ahead for us."
Also, I saw a news segment today that reported The Odyssey is a wild success. They showed multiple videos of individuals enthusiastically going to see the movie. The odd thing is that the individual videos people made didn't show any crowds. They just filmed themselves walking into the lobby. There were no lines. There were no crowds. The news segment didn't show inside the theater either as they did with the Minecraft Movie last year.
Glenn Beck had a guy on who reviewed it and said it was great and wholesome and not woke at all. I only listen to Beck on long drives for entertainment purposes as he is full of crap and usually wrong about most things and timid about the rest. The whole time I am thinking, this is the black Helen of Troy movie, right?
