The Food and Drug Administration just walked back its own finding in the massive Cyclospora outbreak that has left thousands of Americans suffering from relentless, explosive diarrhea.
On Sunday, the FDA announced that laboratory experts re-checked a sample of shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico that had previously tested “positive” for the parasite. The agency now says the result was a false positive. The
The FDA wrote on its website:
“FDA is providing an update regarding the sample of lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico which was reported positive on July 18, 2026. Due to the complexity in detection of Cyclospora, FDA laboratory experts re-reviewed the sample results and have concluded that the finding does not represent true amplification and should be considered a false positive.
“Information about the sample has been removed from the July 18, 2026, update. FDA has notified Taylor Farms and continues working with the firm to ensure product implicated in this outbreak has been removed from the market. FDA and state partners continue to collect and analyze product samples. As of July 19, 2026, there are no confirmed positive sample results for product testing for Cyclospora.”
The source of the outbreak remains completely unknown.
This comes after days of chaos in which Taylor Farms recalled iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico that had been shipped to 27 states.
The company had been squarely in the crosshairs after federal investigators traced illnesses to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

Much to their dismay a doctor that Fox interviewed began by saying this is not a story that even belongs in the news. Seems to be pretty common and preventable and not much more than a tempest in a teapot.
I have told my wife that the little pre-made salads from the store are not my cup of tea. Ditto for salad bars and buffet. Can’t trust them these days. They remind me of how risky it is to eat in some cultures when you can’t trust the cooks to be culturally clean. Like the time I got dysentery in the camp cafeteria out in the desert of Algeria.
I’m getting to where if I didn’t grow it or kill it, clean it and cook it I don’t eat it. Not only is engrish a seond language so is cleanliness where our third weird “guests” are concerned.
Wuhan...India...Iran...Canada...A blue state or city...
The list of nasty “foreign” enemies is quite long...
Better call Orkin...
I had my own experience with "Montezuma's Revenge" back in 1984 and it was as bad as this, but not nearly as long. However I did develop a horrendous case of hemorrhoids as a result of it, which even required a physician's care.
I don’t buy it. Where the lettuce is grown there are no Porto-Potties in the fields or any other relief facilities and the workers ‘relieve’ themselves right there in the irrigation rows. Whoever is sourcing their lettuce from Taylor Farms needs to find another source within the U.S. where quality control is in place and safety measures are being implemented.
Any time though when you consume lettuce you are risking being exposed to any number of feces-related vectors. And I don’t know that you can wash and rinse and spin that out. Pesticides with Dawn soap but not that junk.
After a short while it will show no new cases of the illness where Taylor was not the source.
In the meantime no one should risk having lettuce on their food or salads unless it is confirmed NOT sourced from that grower by that grocer or restaurant.
WE DON’T HAVE ANY IDEA?
Really?
Who dropped a deuce on the produce?
C’mon man.
FDA says it still thinks ‘diarrhea parasite’ came from Taylor Farms — and insists it didn’t apologize
Nadler needs a cane or a walker.
Someone on here posted a link to a 24 minute video about this, and the Dr narrating says washing in bleach water or vinegar, etc does nothing. You have to cook the food to 158° to kill the parasite.
I stopped buying the pre-made salads in a bowl as they er... cleaned out the innards.
I do buy bagged salad lettuce and add in a sliced hard boil egg, ham & turkey and American cheese.
