Take tariffs. From an Econ perspective, tariffs are a govt-run tool that takes consumer surplus and transfers it to the government and producers, and creates deadweight loss.
Some on the right take issue with that reality, or cry that it’s needed now or we have to beat China yada yada yada.
Whatever. Tariffs are still an income redistribution gig. Welfare.
If conservatives want to embrace being a little statist, that’s fine.
But Own it.
But Laissez-Faire Globalization is doomed to failure too.
There has to be balance.
