If I remember my communication classes in college, the individual stations/ channels have FCC licenses not the networks. The nets can actually own IIRC only five stations.
Now those stations are likely NYC, DC, LA, CHI, and somewhere depending on the net. Figure to be Houston, SF, Atlanta, Denver or St Louis

True at one point, but now even bigger corporations own the networks. Rules were changed from 5 stations to 5 VHF and 2 UHF stations to 12 stations. Now the networks have an overall cap: they can’t own stations serving more than 39% of the national population.
