As America commemorates 250 years of independence, the @usmint will begin striking this new $1 gold coin to honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism. Featuring President Trump, it celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.

American can commemorate it’s 250th anniversary. It does not need Tramp’s image on it and it is ego and a narcissistic personality that has chosen his own image for the coin. The coin should be self promoting for no living politician.

I agree with you completely. Every time something is named for Trump, I consider it an “own goal” in Soccer lingo. I appreciate that he has a big ego or else he would never have even thought of running for president, but he needs to stop the ridiculous naming of things or putting his image on things that are taxpayer funded. I have always thought that nothing taxpayer funding should be named for a living person.

if these are anything like the other SEMIQUINCENTENNIAL commemorative $1 coins, they’re clad, presumably with a thin layer of gold, though that’s actually not clear ...

Of course it's not clear! Why would they want to be clear about that?! It would only hurt sales!

It's composed of non-precious metals, but will have a "gold-like finish," the spokesperson said.

I am keeping my eyes out for pre 1964 silver coins through change I get from using cash for purchases.

The number of pre-1964 silver coin still in circulation (i.e., not held by coin collectors aware of their true value - and not by people who might unknowingly spend them) is effectively zero.

thanks for clarifying that the finish is “gold-like” ... these might as well be from the Franklin Mint, except i suppose they are legal tender for $1.00 ...

Take a look on the thread, buddy. Either a whole lot of long time Freepers are secret lefties or this is an unnecessary vanity project. I know which one I’m going with.
