I am against the death penalty, except when a person convicted of murder kills again after they are in prison. Death penalty cases just drag on and on with the death penalty almost never carried out anyway.
“I am against the death penalty...”
On the other hand, if there is no penalty that doesn’t threaten them not to do the crime or offers them parole or clemency from a governor that feels as you do, then there is nothing to deter anyone from committing the crimes of rape, kidnapping or death. And where does it stop? If there is no capital punishment, it is easy for the court to allow the plea bargain to first degree manslaughter which is this:
Maximum of life with the possibility of parole after (6.5–8.5 years)
And they keep going down hill from there. Many years ago members of the town just shot the guy dead. It was easier then. But by taking away the death penalty you can be putting a person that may have murdered your family member and he could be out on the street as early as 6.5 years. And if there is no reason to keep the perp, then the cases may not even make it into court as the pleas will get for lesser or lesser actual trials until murder will no longer be an issue and will be closer to a minor misdemeanor. And if you don’t see this happening look wht’s happened to marijuana.
Just doesn’t sound like justice to me. Sounds closer to organized crime.
