The final sketch of Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness’s second episode, like many of the HBO historical comedy series’ sketches so far, featured some big deal guest stars alongside Larry David, as well as some of the show’s most direct political commentary to date. It most notably featured Rob Reiner as George Washington, one of his few posthumous performances following his tragic death in December 2025.
In the sketch from “Farewell,” Washington is wrapping up his second term as President with the announcement that he will not be seeking a third (term) — a decision explained in his farewell address, which also included his strong opinion that political parties were bad for the country because they might “become potent engines by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government.”
Narrator Samuel L. Jackson, in his introduction, puts some extra mustard on the “cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men” bit, and things get much less subtle from there. As Washington explains his decision to step down, he and a crowd member played by David start debating the possibility of a “narcissistic prick” of a future president, who might violate the Constitution and enrich his own interests thanks to a broken system of checks and balances.
The January 6th insurrection, the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti, and efforts by this current administration to censor dissent are all referenced in the ensuing debate, with Jimmy Kimmel popping up as another crowd member to drive the point home. “Are you suggesting that the president would taketh the time to challenge anyone who dare make fun of him, as if he were a big baby?” he says in his tricorner hat. “I don’t see it.”

“Rob Reiner Makes Posthumous Guest Appearance on Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness to Slam Trump”. Meathead is dead.
Archie (in real life) was a lib. On the show, I agreed with 95% of what he said
This is sad and wrong for so many reasons. First, the producers of this show are disgusting for using Reiner in this way. Was Reiner anti-Trump? Yes. But he’s dead and he died in a horrific murder. Show some respect for the dead. Can that be a reason to stop the politics? Take that scene out of the show if its going to be divisive precisely because some people will criticize Reiner or it will generate bad feelings about Reiner because of it.
Second, I’ve just hated the discussion about Reiner since his death. Before Reiner became rabidly anti-Trump, we was a funny guy. He did not take himself that seriously. He gave funny interviews. He was a talented director and a decent actor. I liked watching his movies and I liked watching him act. I also enjoyed watching his interviews. I came across one interview the other day where the interviewer tried to make Reiner sound like some prominent actor in the 60s and Reiner mocked the idea with a line like “Yes, my performance singing “Blowing in the Wind” with Gomer Pyle was one of the classics.” That’s the way I want to remember him.
I was very disappointed to see Jerry Seinfeld appear in this series. I can only guess he did it out of friendship and and loyalty to his longtime collaborator, David. But to participate in this unending rant and stupid sarcasm about the founding of our great nation is beyond tasteless. Seinfeld and the rest are the type who would point out to their executioner that the guillotine needs a little oil so it won’t get stuck.
His son murdered him.
Seinfeld is smart and funny, and is slowly parting ways with leftists, but he’s a leftist still.
What do you expect from a meathead? ;~))
I missed that. I thought he was still around making an ass out of himself.
Reiner and his wife were both murdered.... by their own son.
Like a skunk turd, Meathead bobs back to the surface every now and then.
Sad that Nick Reiner is an orphan now... 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The hardcore Left despises Seinfeld because he dares to defend Israel against the PLO and Hezbollah.
The hypocrisy of Larry David and his ilk is that they feel that candidates preferred by the elitists are superior to those elected by the common people. It is risible that they rant about “Democracy” (refusing to accept that the USA is a constitutional republic) while reject the notion of respecting election results that they dislike.
