Divorced spouses can receive Social Security benefits on an ex-husband’s or ex-wife’s work record if the marriage lasted at least 10 years and you remain unmarried. You can collect up to 50% of your ex-spouse’s full retirement amount, and your claim will not reduce the payouts to your ex or their current family. Source SS website

Thank you for setting me straight. The way my attorney explained it was I retired and took SS benefits, my spouse would get half.
