Wasn't always so. I remember when California was Reagan Country. California conservatives mocked New York, much like today Texas conservatives mock California.

I figured with Dem supermajorities in both houses what difference can Hilton make. Then I listened to a surprisingly candid interview with one of the Republicans running in the primary for state Controller. Alas, I don't recall her name or even if she made it to the general.

She stated that if Hilton wins there is one thing, and only one thing that he can do to make a difference. As governor he gets to appoint the state auditor. As she explained it the state auditor has great powers to start and pursue independent investigations of spending and corruption. The current auditor is a Newsom lackey and a no show/do nothing in the office. That alone is reason for me to support Hilton.

This is in spite of the fact that not only does Los Angeles require you to register to vote at your home address, it also requires you to sign an affidavit avowing that’s your official place of residence. For those of you not associated with the law, signing an affidavit under false pretenses is — dum dum dum! — perjury!
