I also noticed people building new houses with black roofs and walls.
For the love of god people it’s Texas and it gets very hot here. Black paint/finishes absorb heat are it will damaged anything attached to it or under it.
For centuries people who live in a desert paint anything with outside exposure white. These new designers seem to be infected with a serious case of dumbassery!!
When people are happy you see bright peppy colors.
Grey and bleak has been the norm in houses and cars for the past 15 or so years.
Cars started to go back to color about a year ago. Houses will take a little longer.
I have one. I call it the Batmobile.
I've noticed that too, grey homes and grey or black drive-ins like McDonald's and Taco Bell. Really depressing looking.

They like battleships.
Lots of new car paint colors remind me of 1960’ or ‘70’s “Testors” enamel model paint colors. I look at the “enamel gray” color new cars and say “When are they going to paint over that primer job?”
As for black car paint jobs, they do not survive in places like Phoenix or FResno (unless garaged 90% of the time)...after a few years the clear coat turns white then the car ends up looking like it has “scabies” or something!
