The New York Knicks are NBA champions.

In a Game 5 of the NBA Finals Saturday night that looked much like the previous four, the San Antonio Spurs took a double-digit lead in the first quarter.

But like in three of the previous four games, the Knicks rallied — this time from a 16-point deficit — to secure a 94-90 Game 5 win and a 4-1 series victory in the NBA Finals.

Jalen Brunson led the way with a legacy-securing 45-point effort as New York’s only reliable source of offense on a night in which both teams struggled from the field. But for New York, the win didn’t have to be pretty. The result is the franchise’s first NBA championship since 1973. And Brunson has secured his place among New York’s sporting greats.

The current New York championship droughts are as follows:
1968-New York Jets (Super Bowl III, this is also the longest current absence from the Super Bowl for a franchise that has played in at least one).
1976-New York/New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets-ABA champions.
1983-New York Islanders-4 consecutive Stanley Cups
1986-New York Mets
1994-New York Rangers-end of 1940 Stanley Cup drought
2009-New York Yankees
2011-New York Giants
2026-New York Knicks-end of 53 year NBA championship drought

the game tonight is exactly what im talking about...and the way ALL the teams play now. Both teams had ony 22 shots on goal. Few QUALITY scoring chances. The entire game, the play is “ragged”. All dump and chase, the
quiet crowds. The goalies are all indentical and play the same way. Its now too robotic. Who ever gets the lucky bounces and deflections scores. Thats why hockey was so much better in the 80’s and to the mid 90’s. Players like Orr, Gretzky and Lemuiex could do their thing. Its now a jumbled, boring, low scoring mess. Idiots w did it to themselves, ruined their own game.
