Knicks rally again behind Jalen Brunson’s 45 points to defeat Spurs, win franchise’s first NBA championship since 1973

The New York Knicks are NBA champions.

In a Game 5 of the NBA Finals Saturday night that looked much like the previous four, the San Antonio Spurs took a double-digit lead in the first quarter.

But like in three of the previous four games, the Knicks rallied — this time from a 16-point deficit — to secure a 94-90 Game 5 win and a 4-1 series victory in the NBA Finals.

Jalen Brunson led the way with a legacy-securing 45-point effort as New York’s only reliable source of offense on a night in which both teams struggled from the field. But for New York, the win didn’t have to be pretty. The result is the franchise’s first NBA championship since 1973. And Brunson has secured his place among New York’s sporting greats.

“ And the Spurs looked like the better team for a large swath of each of the five Finals games that they led for 72% of the time.”

The Knicks led when it actually counted…

“Spurs are now ready too dominate“

Yeah. Wemby missed an important 3 late in one of their losses and I mused that in a year or two he ain’t gonna miss that shot.

that league is a mess...season is wayyyy too long

I agree that the season is too long but the league is hardly a mess. It's more popular now than it has ever been, especially in southern venues.

Now, to make champs out of the NY Jets!!

I will say the Packers would move to Fort Meade, Florida before the Jets get their act together and win their second Super Bowl!! 🤣

True... How many hockey games in Canada you can go to the arena by boat? Maybe by an ice boat...but not by power boats...

Don’t forget the Celtics.

I am a nominal Lakers fan. The Celtics were omitted on purpose.

oddly, i wanted them to win this.

To me, it is the old school nature of the team combined with the long drought, and the loyalty of the fan base. Even the name, knickerbockers, sounds old school and I like the nod to the city's Dutch history.

ummm...they are getting beat by womens college basketball games in the tv ratings. Also, way too many nameless, faceless teams, but the way the game is played now. Too defensive ..too robotic. All the teams look and play exactly the same way. Goalies ALL look and play the same way. Seems like every game is 2-1 or 3-2. Even with all the weird rule changes to help, the league is a shell of what it once was in the 1980’s to the mid 90’s. And they did it to themselves.

You obviously haven’t been watching these finals. I must admit a Carolina-Vegas final wasn’t very thrilling, but the games have been great.

Wemby took Ahole to a whole nother level the other night. He got Phil Godlewski and his family kicked out of the Hilton because they said good luck to him when he came out of his suite while they were going into their suite across the hall. Phil has a huge following on social media.

I am loving the blowback he’s creating on this POS. He should sue Hilton.
