There you go, California in one picture, they think it is an iconic 53-year-old landmark. In reality, a public works project that could not last a single lifetime.
Maybe it can take the rest ofvthe state with it?
It’s an avatar of California. All the money gets spent on social welfare or fraud (but I repeat), very little percentage wise goes to maintaining infrastructure. Maintaining this structure over time would have had a small impact. Now total replacement is the only answer and that probably can’t happen because A: the Coastal Commission won’t allow it and B: it will be so cost prohibitive due to new standards and regulations.
The politicians prefer to steal the maintenance money now and then steal more when it fails and has to be rebuilt completely.
It is painfully obvious from the photos that this pier has been suffering from a lack of maintenance for many years. It is just like a 60 year old person who has never gone in for medicare care. Just add it to the list of the many major California failures.
