Killer Karmelo Anthony has been found guilty of murder for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a Texas high school track meet.
Anthony, now 19, sobbed, and his family burst into tears as the judge read the verdict on Tuesday.
The jury deliberated for less than three hours after the defense and prosecution delivered closing arguments.
Anthony claimed he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed Metcalf, 17, with a folding knife after a heated argument at the high school event in Frisco in April 2025.
The case shocked America, and the discussion surrounding it quickly became racially fraught.
During closing arguments, prosecutors eviscerated Anthony's self-defense claim and encouraged jurors to find him guilty of murder.
'What is important is not motive. It's mindset. Mindset. He took a knife to a track meet,' Collin County First Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye said.
'[Anthony] of course, felt empowered that he was going to come out on top of any encounter. You don't get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove.'
Wirskye added, 'Why didn't he just walk away. He could have left the tent at any time. He didn't. He didn't abandon the encounter.'

UNREAL. CNN ALEADY CALLING IT A SHOCKING VERDICT. Areva Martin insinuating it is because of an all white jury and says Anthony was in FEAR OF HIS LIFE by larger athletes.
She says this will be tough for the black community to accept.

I’ve been on many juries in CA, and a couple in AK. Have never been sequestered, though.
None of those cases had a racial component like Karmelo’s. This was before Obama came in and stirred the pot.
I do watch a lot of true crime, and there have been cases where a jury comes back within an hour (guilty). They were blatantly guilty. I felt this was the same.
Because it's normal to stab someone in the heart when they ask you to leave a place you have no business being in.

I thought they would return before one hour. But I also thought the verdict was decided in about 20 minutes, as you mentioned, but they waited a few minutes just for optics.

I have served in Maryland and Virginia. I haven’t seen any real racial component either ... in all criminal cases, the defendants and the (alleged) victim(s) were of the same racial background.

I suspect that will be his first appeal. Karmelo and fam raised a million on gofundme and yet pleaded poor so Karmelo had to settle for a public defender.
Because he sat down in that tent with the intent of causing a confrontation. He knew that he was not supposed to be in another school's tent.
He went out of his way to cause a fight.
He brought a knife to a school event which he knew was forbidden.
Did he go to the track meet with intent to kill some white kid, we don't know. But the known facts suggest that he did.
The jury generally introduces each other, then they have to elect a foreman, then decide how to proceed. That has to take a couple of hours.
You are so right, I've been on three different juries over the past 25 years and that's exactly how it happens.
Yes, I am angry. I despise Karmleo Anthony, but haven’t called for him to be raped. He should be, lawfully, in my opinion put to death for murder. Don’t color everyone with one brush.
