You have to personally go buy, or have donated to you, top kit. Otherwise, the gear pretty much sucks.
I know a guy who seems to have bought all the add ons for his M4, and it would!’t surprise me that he also bought the M4!
Ceramic vests are not general issue.
I used to know someone who was in Laos and Cambodia during the Nixon era, and he had to ask his parents to buy him a combat knife, even though a combat knife was the most basic kit imaginable. Uncle Sugar did not issue him one.
