JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A mother was arrested for D.U.I. after driving 120 miles per hour on I-10 with her three-year-old in the back seat, says the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).

According to JSO, an officer pulled over the mother after seeing her drive 120 miles per hour on I-10. The officer enlisted the help of D.U.I. Officer Ernesto Valerio after he smelled marijuana in the car.

An investigation determined that the mother was driving under the influence and found a lit marijuana joint and several empty bottles of alcohol after searching the car. Her three-year-old was in the backseat.

In the body cam footage posted on JSO’s social media, Officer Valerio asks the mother, “You think that’s a safe way of driving with him?”

JSO says that the mother was supposedly driving fast so she could get to her 10-year-old son, who was left at home.

The mother was arrested for D.U.I. and violating Florida’s Super Speeder law, which makes it a crime to go more than 100 miles per hour.

Economies were doing over 110 in the 90's. Rodney King and his Honda or Toyota ring a bell. Today's suvs will do 120 and still want more. A 15 y.o. v6 charger has a fuel cut off at 129mph.

The thing people overlook, dont thi k about at all is the TIRES!! At those speeds a bad tire can shred and send you another direction instead of down the road!!

P 93 mph 150 km/h

Q 99 mph 160 km/h Studless & Studdable Winter Tires

R 106 mph 170 km/h H.D. Light Truck Tires

S 112 mph 180 km/h Family Sedans & Vans Tires

T 118 mph 190 km/h Family Sedans & Vans Tires

U 124 mph 200 km/h

H 130 mph 210 km/h

If you aint running U or H tires ypu have no business doing 120mph and could wind up dead- all because you were overly confident..

You’ll not get an argument from me.

I just know that the top speed on our CX-3 is listed in the owner’s manual at 123 mph

I’m one of the few people in history to get a speeding ticket in Montana. It was for 92 in an 80. I didn’t tell the trooper I’d been averaging 11 for the previous 3 hours.

Motorcycle, ‘86 Gold Wing with Windjammer fairing, box stock otherwise. 140+ a few times. German Autobahn. Road gets pretty narrow at those speeds.

Caddy CTS tops at 120MPH, and you can set the cruise. I keep good Michelins on it. Drive to work was through middle of nowhere Nevada.

Anyone driving this fast in public should be charged with attempted murder.

The kids future appears to be short and dim.

Poor child. He is probably in great turmoil right now. My heart breaks.

He's having withdrawal from his contact highs.

I pushed my Pontiac Catalina coupe in 1976 once on west I-40 in Ark up to 140 mph.

It didn’t even shake.

“Hitting 120 used to be a thing for teen males, I doubt that many today ever try it, or if their cars will even do it.”

Usually speed limited based on the OEM tires.

I had to push 100 once driving across the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah heading to Nevada.

Otherwise I was going to fall asleep. The horizon never seemed to approach.

“Fastest I’ve ever driven on the ‘open road’ was 134 MPH in an Aston Martin DB 2/4 Mark 3.”

Very rare car.

134 mph? Not likely.

How would the tires affect the ability of the car to reach 120?

“How would the tires affect the ability of the car to reach 120?”

Tires are speed rated. Manufacturers put speed limiter on cars based on the OEM tire ratings.

For example the 2019 Mustang GT was speed limited from the factory at 155.

This same car, after getting the Roush treatment, got a 180 speed limit.

Of course, tires are not the only consideration.

Speed governors based on the tires? When did they start doing that and how hard is it to undo it?
