After being involve with the production of Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Masters of the Air, plus starring in Saving Private Ryan, I'm looking forward to this documentary from Tom Hanks which begins today at 8pm eastern on the History Channel.
All Day yesterday off and on I watched WW II in HD narrated by Gary Sinese on the History Channel.
Additionally, this morning at 11am on AMC their Band of Brothers marathon begins, I remember when this premiered-on HBO right before 9/11 and thought it was fantastic, episodes 2,5, and 7 are my personal favorites.
Episode 2 - Day of Days - parachuting into Normandy on D-day
Episode 5 - Crossroads - Winters leading a charge in Holland and ending with Easy Company taking up position around Bastogne at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge
Episode 7 - Breaking point - Guarnere and Toye getting injured and Spears taking over Easy Company.
Just think about it for a second, when Tom Hanks and the people who run the History Channel decide to produce a 20-part series about WW II, who are they trying to appeal to in order to justify spending the amount of money they spent.
Are they trying to appeal to WW II history fanatics like yourself or perhaps me or are they trying to appeal to the masses ??
How many people in the general public are history fanatics like yourself versus the person with limited knowledge of the War.
Plus, it’s been 80 years since the end of WW II, there really isn’t anything new to learn about WW II that would justify a new 20-part series.
I enjoyed the first 3 parts of the series, I didn’t learn anything new but it’s interesting to see to see how the producers put together the story and try in 20 one-hour episodes explain as they say, the largest event in the history of mankind, are they going to leave out key details, absolutely, it would be impossible not to.
I try to enjoy the series for what it is, not nitpick details that might be missing.
“”I personally enjoy the WW II productions he’s been involved in.””
You are not alone...The shows for Memorial Day were excellent regardless of the political opinion of narrators/producers..It’s a shame that people can’t separate personal from professional.
No kidding, I was surprised at all the negative feedback about the post I made, if you don’t like Tom Hanks, that’s fine, but I don’t understand having to post your hatred for someone to skip something they’ve produced for TV.
✅☢️ Ended the Manchurian to the United States television stare, years ago.
Will live our life instead.
oh, there’s no doubt hanks is trying to appeal to the ignorant masses, the ignorant masses too lazy to have bothered to view [much less read] any of the other easily available and top quality resources about WWII, most of which are available if one subscribes to Prime video ... i suppose, though, that the ignorant masses will be attracted to the hanks shows due to his celebrity fame ... and so it goes ...
The Ignorant masses might not get a complete education about WW II from this documentary; they will get a much better education than they currently have which is nothing.
