That seems like a possibility.

Methylmethacrylate (if I recall the correct monomer) escaping from a leak might polymerize into an effective stop-leak.

No.. the polymerization reaction generates heat.. a LOT of it. It’s exponential, once it gets going... hence the fear of an explosion
