I have a couple of friends who are liberals -- not those liberals who have reached what I call “the incurable terminal stage.” Nor are they the psychotics who, the moment they are exposed to facts or viewpoints different from theirs become wild-eyed and hysterical. Even so, on certain topics their ability to reason seems to break down.
A couple of months back, the issue of illegal aliens came up. They voiced the usual talking points on the topic: the aliens are just trying to build a better life, they pay taxes, only a few commit crimes, etc. They did not state they are being kidnapped and put in concentration camps. I countered with the usual arguments: they have entered the country illegally, many are engaged in horrific crimes, they are using up the welfare system, that Democrats have been employing illegal aliens to engage in fraudulent elections.
Nothing works.
So I’ve decided on a different tack. Since we were scheduled to meet in a month, I would record the number of crimes committed by illegal aliens in one month.
Even I was shocked:
- A Pakistani killed an American in a head-on collision.
- A Guatemalan raped an underage girl in Florida.
- Another Guatemalan murdered a young teenage boy, luring him with the promise of sex.
- In South Carolina, an illegal immigrant who was so drunk he could not stand was driving a vehicle and killed two black children on their bicycles.
= In a San Antonio, Texas park, an illegal immigrant punched a Mexican-American mother in the face, then proceeded to bite the face of her three-year-old daughter, who also lost two teeth.
- An illegal alien from El Salvador stabbed to death two women at a Wendy’s. ..............

Yep. Same goes when discussing religion.
Long ago I learned to avoid bringing up politics or religion in a conversation.
Two exceptions:
1. The conversation can be fruitful when everyone present is of a like mind.
2. The conversation can be fruitful when someone not of a like mind genuinely wants to know, and so asks a question. Such instances are relatively rare.
More often the questioner really doesn’t want to know, and just asks a question in order to start an argument. I’ve become nimble at deflecting such questions.
It’s because their beliefs are more of a virtue signal than an actual belief based on data and reality. When you disagree with them, you are calling them a bad person.
Your time would be more productively spent trying to lower sea levels with a spoon and a 5-gallon bucket.
I see an error in your logic, Liberal and reason are polar opposites and impossible to bring together....

Even then sometimes they make excuses and go down with the ship so to speak. I recall some time ago a thread here on FR about some leftist woman visiting a Caribbean Island where she was raped and she made light of the crime due to the rapist being downtrodden and oppressed etc etc. Hardcore leftists never give up. Recalls my reading of commies about to be executed in the Gulag would shout long live Stalin before the bullets flew. They all thought Stalin was unaware and a mistake had been made.

That’s my experience with my liberal brother. I think it’s because they’re saying something consciously, but their subconscious knows it’s wrong and they are basically trying to believe two conflicting ideas. Like saying, “I can’t define what a woman is”. They damn well do know what a woman is, and they know they know, so they get mad because they can’t defend the original statement.
Wasn’t it Reagan who said, “A Liberal is just a Conservative who hasn’t been mugged yet.” ?
I was once a lib. But I came around before age 40. If they make it to 40 without reevaluating their beliefs, it’s too late.
- they hurt the working class. They drive down wages, take jobs that used to be held down by the working class, the young etc AND they use up public resources that used to go to support those at the bottom of the social ladder in America
- The big supporters of illegal aliens are large corporations who just want cheap labor. It increases their profits. They pay illegals crappy wages and the taxpayers are then stuck paying for education, housing, food and healthcare for illegals.....this is effectively a giant subsidy paid by the American people to large corporations.....who then pass on those extra earnings to the rich.
- many of the illegals themselves are horribly treated. There are the "rape trees" and the very high number of illegal immigrant women raped along the way to sneaking into the US - not to mention all the kids trafficked, used as slave labor, raped, murdered, etc. Its far easier to commit crimes against illegal aliens because...they're illegal. They are afraid to go to the cops and report crimes against them. Perps know this.
- as to the arguments about "who will pick our fruit?"......remind liberals of just how much that sounds like "who will pick our cotton?" Its the exact same motivation.....and who will pick the fruit and build houses if Illegals are deported? Americans will. Can't get enough to work for crappy 3rd world wages? Then pay more. That's the free market. If that reduces corporate profits by a few percent per year.....so be it. The rich (who own the shares) can afford it.
Then there's house prices. What happens to house prices if 30 million illegal aliens get deported? They become affordable for young Americans again....like they used to be. That boosts our birth rates if first time homebuyers go back to being 28 on average like they were in the 1990s instead of 40 years old right now. (in response to the claim we need them because our birth rates are low).
Lefties CLAIM to care about the poor and the working class. OK. Hold them to that. Force them to admit to themselves they are knowingly hurting the poor and the working class if they support illegal immigration.

Taxes go up and the American citizens pockets get emptied because of the thieving invaders...

Your efforts are wasted. Rather than try to reason, you must ignore and ostracize. Friendship with a leftist is counterproductive and harmful to you, personally, not to mention America.

Actually, I was going to comment something along those lines, but stopped myself. Most of the fraudsters were brought in & given some form of legal presence under Biden. They’re not necessarily illegal.
But they certainly ALL NEED TO GO.
