Yes. In general, it depends on the age of the older PERSON (sex is irrelevant), and sometimes on the age difference.
BTW ... I'm tired of seeing human beings referred to as "the male" or "the female". That terminology is for animals. People are men and boys, women and girls. That may seem a nitpick to you ... don't know ... but words drive attitudes; attitudes drive actions. Dehumanizing words are dangerous.
I picked up ‘male and female’ - particularly ‘female’ - from a boyfriend in the 1980s who had served in the Navy, where he was in the habit of referring to ‘females’.
I continue to use it purposely in the age of ‘trans’.
