New Disney cruise ejects every passenger after boarding — leaving families stranded thousands of miles from home

Guests onboard Disney Cruise Line’s all-new Disney Adventure learned their four-night sailing embarking from Singapore was canceled — mere hours after they already boarded the ship.

On Thursday, May 7, after guests boarded, settled in and started their vacation, the captain of the ship announced that there were technical issues and guests were to wait for further information.

A Reddit user who was on the cruise said that they were told they “will set sail soon.”

“Midnight now. We’ve been waiting here since 2 p.m., and they have no update for us,” they wrote in an update in the comments. “What’s even worse is they’ve shut down all kitchens, coffee, etc. Why would they do that?”

About 26 hours later, approximately 2 p.m. Singapore time, it was announced that the cruise would be canceled due to mechanical issues that the engineering team couldn’t fix in time.

Guests were ultimately stranded in Singapore and left to figure out what to do next. At 6:30 p.m., they wrote that they were still waiting for a letter with hotel information before disembarking.

The Reddit user noted that when the cancellation was “really disappointing, especially if vacationing with kids.”

With a cruise like this, guests likely planned and booked this trip far in advance, and many traveled internationally to reach the ship.

“The Disney Adventure remains in port in Singapore as our teams continue to address a mechanical issue,” a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson said in a statement, per WDW News Today.

“As the issue has not been resolved in the timeframe required to start this voyage, this current sailing has been cancelled. We apologize to our guests and are working with them directly to provide support for their travel needs.”

“Better than getting stranded at sea with a breakdown”

Or hantavirus

Or worse...Norovirus.

That’s all well and good but these people are on a ship where their lodging would have been during the stay and are now having to suddenly arrange transport to shore and to a hotel they have to find for themselves and arrange a hotel stay. They are not familiar with the city and have no idea of how far away a hotel is, where it is located in Singapore.

Yeah, a mechanical issue.

And apparently they aren’t going to be forthcoming with exactly what it is.

I wouldn’t get on that boat if it was free of charge with complimentary round trip transportation.

Singapore is the safest cleanest city in the world.

Wonder if the ‘mechanical issue’ is lack of staff due to the child porn arrests.

That thought also crossed my mind. The timing is suspicious.

That has nothing to do with the inconvenience of arrangements to be made by someone not knowing a city and a stay that wasn’t planned. How is it you can’t get this point?

I get your point, but your post (as understood by more than one of us) implied that the problem was that the people were in Singapore, and not merely a foreign city.

>Singapore is the safest cleanest city in the world.<

It’s also cheaper to stay there than four 4 days on the cruise. If these people were savvy enough to book a cruise, finding a hotel room for 3 nights will be a snap. There’s also plenty to do in that lovely city.

“...why people would book their cruises...”

I have gone with a number of lines for my cruising for about 30 years now and surprisingly they handle ship operations for the passengers better than any of the other lines I have used. And their embarkation (boarding) and disembarkation (leaving), work is the best I have seen. A lot better than their crowd control at the parks which seems to be what happens they can get by with.

The biggest problem I’ve ever seen on the cruises I’ve been on is the amount of crew that speaks little to no English.

The ship leaves from the US with probably 99% American passengers and most crew speaks little to no English?.....it really doesn’t work IMO.

I’d take Singapore over a Disney cruise ship any day.

On every cruise I’ve ever taken I make it a point to seek out at least elderly couple and strike up a conversation about their cruising experiences and I ask what was their favorite cruise.....EVERY single time I ask it’s always the same answer.....Alaska.

Hands down with no hesitation.

If I ever did go on one more that would be the one.

One couple gave me a top tip.

If its the cruise/train combination trip, take the train first and save the cruise for last....as the train trip is not quite as comfortable as the ship.

But if one books on a cruise anywhere in the world and expects to stay on the ship they should not have to make this decision.

I don’t care if it were in our country or whatever, you booked on the ship and suddenly boom you’re scrambling for a room somewhere. Disney says they’ll put ‘some’ by a certain date up for the night. What kind of business is this? Pretty lame.

Also, I would never take a Disney cruise.

What’s hard to imagine about that? I’ve been to Singapore several times and it was fine. It is a more developed and richer nation than the United States.
