Golden Tempo, the first Kentucky Derby winner to be trained by a woman, will not race at next weekend's Preakness.
Trainer Cherie DeVaux announced the news Wednesday, explaining that her barn has Golden Tempo focused on the Belmont Stakes, which will be run in her native Saratoga Springs, New York for the third and final time this year.
'We are incredibly appreciative of the excitement and support surrounding the possibility of a Triple Crown run,' DeVaux said in a statement. 'Golden gave us the race of a lifetime in the Kentucky Derby, and we believe the best decision for him moving forward is to give him a little more time following such a tremendous effort.

Wow, just wow! I live in Calvert County, so I don’t keep up with things going on up in that area. Sad.
So they can send teh whole season up to Baltimore. Every-flipping-thing revolves around Baltimore.
“Smart. Let him rest up. Isn’t the Belmont the longest distance?”
Yep, by far, 1.5 miles, Derby, 1.25 miles, Preakness 1.187 miles.
The Belmont Stakes is at Saratoga Springs this year. It’s 1-1/4 miles like the Derby. Belmont Park reopens this fall.

It should be a contractual requirement that the Kentucky Derby winner will participate in the Preakness. If the horse wins the Preakness, then it must participate in the Belmont.
The triple crown should rotate every year is another solution. The race order would change every year.
