I'm actually writing more now than I did even five years ago. Why? Because the small vendors near me are starting to tack 3.5% credit card fees onto their bills. Whenever I see that, out comes the checkbook.

Some agencies charge a flat fee for using a credit card. I've mailed checks for the amount of one toll instead of using my credit card because the credit card fee was higher than the toll.

I've witnessed suffering from customers who had to go far out of their way from storm areas to buy necessities because the area they lived in didn't have electricity and businesses would only take cash or checks.
