I have a Dr. Appt in about an hour and I intend to talk to her about getting off this statin.

I don’t really need her permission, but I’d like to hear what she has to say.

Ping me, please, if you report on your convo with your doc about the statin.

My PCP wanted to start me on a statin, but I refused.

Perspectives on Statin Efficacy:
Relative vs. Absolute Risk: While a statin may reduce an individual’s relative risk of a heart attack by 30%, this translates to a smaller absolute risk reduction (e.g., dropping risk from 4% to 3%).

Targeted Benefit: The 13% figure specifically aligns with findings on reduced vascular mortality in high-risk patients, such as those with diabetes.

Primary vs. Secondary Prevention: For individuals with no prior history (primary prevention), the benefits are lower (around 10% risk reduction) compared to those who have already experienced a cardiac event (secondary prevention).
