Existential crises tend to arrive when the gap between how life feels and how we thought it would feel becomes too wide to ignore.
For a growing number of Americans, 2026 hasn’t just been hard. It’s been disorienting. A Talker Research survey of 2,000 U.S. adults found that one in three people (32%) say they’re currently experiencing an existential crisis, with younger adults far more likely to feel that way than older generations. Nearly four in ten (37%) say their entire lives feel out of their control...
A separate survey of 5,000 Americans, conducted by Talker Research for Current in December 2025, adds context to how raw the financial picture looks.
In that study, 87% of respondents said the country is in a crisis because of how unaffordable life has become. More than half (52%) said they struggle to pay their bills on time each month, and 50% said they’ve had difficulty affording groceries.
Across age groups, the through line is clear: a loss of agency. When people feel unable to influence the things that matter most, their career, their finances, the broader sense of where the country is headed, the psychological fallout is predictable. Anxiety, helplessness, and that disquieting sense of watching your own life happen to you rather than being authored by you.
Rather than staying stuck, a large majority (79%) said they’re planning some kind of mid-year reset, whether focused on mental health (33%), physical health (33%), or finances (25%).

“Anxiety, helplessness, and that disquieting sense of watching your own life happen to you rather than being authored by you.”
These people are dumb and weak.
Victimhood.
First world problems.
Not really. Things are pretty f’d up after 40 years of full bore globalism.
Life is so hard.
1. I already subscribe to Netflix, Disney, and Hulu. Can I afford to add Paramount+?
2. I get my Venti Matcha Crème Frappuccino every morning, but I really want to move up to Super Venti Flat White. Can I afford it?
3. My 2025 iPhone 16 Pro is getting long in the tooth. Can I afford to upgrade to a 2026 iPhone 17 Pro Max?
4. I really want to get Celine Triomphe 52mm Oval Sunglasses at $510, but I can only afford Bottega Veneta Aviator-Style Gold-Tone Sunglasses at $440. What should I do?
Its Trumps fault. Dont remember these headlines when Biden was president. Everybody seemed to feel fine back then.
Not buying it!
Yup!! Someone needs to tell these snowflakes that life is tough and then you die.
LACK OF IMPULSE CONTROL FOR THEIR FINANCIAL MEANS IS THE CORE OF THE PROBLEM.
ANYONE UNDER 30 TODAY WILL PAY $1500 FOR CONCERT TICKETS 8 TIMES A YEAR, BUT WILL NOT PUT $1500 ASIDE FOR A DOWN PAYMENT ON A HOUSE.
NEW CARS-—EATING OUT-(NEVER LEARNING TO COOK EVEN THE SIMPLEST THINGS)-—ENTERTAINMENT—GAMBLING ONLINE-—EVERY NEW ELECTRONIC DEVICE MADE-—MANICURES-—CLOTHES-—”VACATIONS” TO EXOTIC PLACES-—EVEN DRUGS-—
A MILLION WAYS TO EAT UP A LIFE TIME OF EARNINGS & HAVE ZERO OF THEIR OWN PAID FOR.
NEVER EARNED MORE THAN $64,000 GROSS YEAR IN MY LIFE-—AM LIVING ON 3RD PROPERTY SINCE AGE 26. ACRES———— NOT JUST “SQUARE FEET”. OVER 5 ACRES-—PAID CASH FOR THIS 21++ YEARS AGO.
I guess being in control of your life means I want it now therefore, if I do not get it now I am out of control of my life.
The problem with “da young” snowflakes is, they all believe life should be like riding in a one horse open sleigh. That’s why so many of the morons are getting killed when they venture out into the outdoors these days.
For too many it gets reinforced from an early age onward, that they are expected to have this uncertainty about life AND seek help for it. It”s not a good habit to reinforce in people. These people will not be able to take care of themselves in a real crisis. And won’t be any help to others.
The instant gratification crowd wonders why they are feeling financial stress. LOL
The ‘Pandemic’ Was Easy compared to current times.
We Always had Someone to Tell us
What to Do, Where to Stand and How to
Behave. Big Brother ain’t dead Yet.
They've also been forced to learn that so many people around them are Branch Covidian cultists who are desperate to lick the boot that stomps them.
Their culture is being intentionally destroyed by globalists forcing them to live amongst turd world street defecators, all in pursuit of money and power for globalists.
Since there isn't such a New World to sail away to, they're adopting the 'Tang Ping' (lying flat to get over the beatings) approach, and 'Bai Lan' (let it rot), actively embracing a deteriorating situation (embracing the suck), rather than wasting effort trying to turn it around.
Bring out the Free Stuff candidates!
What a crock!
When folk stop burning five dollar a gallon gas waiting in double lines to buy a five dollar plus of cup of joe which isn’t even a Starbucks, then I might buy into the affordability crisis.
Not to mention Uber, Lyft, Doordash et al.
If you can afford to have Mickey D’s delivered, then you are doing well enough to squander your discretionary income.
And I forgot folk are still sending their kids to college for a four year education with unimaginable costs.
Went to the grocery store yesterday.
There were two aloha snackbar women, traditionally dressed and head covered in the mouth.
They pulled out the ‘ol gubmint card which I don’t even know what they call it now.
If I spoke their language, I might have been able to ask them about the affordabilty crisis, but it looks like they were doing well.
If I wasn’t concerned about elevating my blood pressure, I might have scoped them out leaving the store and seen what year and model of car they were driving which I would have bet was newer and better than what I’m driving.

What the hell is their problem?
Agree. Not to mention these kids spend four years at a university that preaches the evils of capitalism... and charges them top dollar plus interest for the experience. Then they get out and can’t get a job, because no matter how smart they’ve been told they are, AI is smarter and their pricey, politically-soaked degree is worthless. But they still have to pay it back, because those woke, egalitarian, collectivist universities were happy to send them to the nearest bank for a loan, happy to charge them for extra classes they didn’t need for their major, happy to charge them capitalist prices for the text books... no wonder their brains are scrambled.
