ALL - 100% - “Green Energy”/”Climate Change” mandates are 100% pure demands with 0% feasible plans in them. They are no different than a legal mandate that says “all motor vehicles WILL get 100 miles per gallon without a scintilla of feasible ideas of how that’s possible. The political organizers believe themselves to be economic magicians who by merely clapping their hands they can miraculously make something happen.

As I’ve said for a long time here, you cannot power modern civilization on wind, solar, and unicorn flatulence. Great example of that in this article.

Co-op City replaced Freedomland, a great amusement park I went to as an early teen.

“The racial demographics of the community, per NICHE.com, are: 64% African-American, 28% Hispanic, 4% white, and 4% other.”

Is this what they used to call the “projects”?

They could cut energy usage by shutting down the elevators and turning down the thermostats to 60 in the winter.

Government rules here - the LL97 are short-sighted. Co-op city is highly efficient and shows that the “Net Zero” transition did not account for micro-grids like Co-op city that are ALREADY more efficient than the average building.

this is trying a “one size fits all” approach which fails. It’s like the fact that within a large city a small electric car like a Nissan leaf works better than a Ford 150, but outside in the suburbs or even more so in rural areas a Nissan leaf is worse than useless.

The article’s conclusion is also a case of “one size fits all” where he tries to use this to prove that the entire renewable transition is a “hoax” —> this is an inductive leap.

What the Co-op City situation actually proves is that one-size-fits-all urban policy fails to account for complex infrastructure.

The reason the Manhattan Contrarian can write about Co-op City’s “energy reality” is that NYC is trying to solve a collective problem with individual penalties.

Dem’s ruin everything they touch

What?? The Energy Fairy is not complying with government mandates to make Green Energy abundant, affordable, and dispatchable? Why, the very nerve of the Energy Fairy to not get with the program!

Only in the fevered minds of innumerate and technically illiterate government bureaucrats is quadrupling fees “affordable.”

The funny thing is that President Trump is supposedly losing the “affordability” argument and people actually claim to prefer Democrat plans for “affordability.”

>>He said renewable, fossil-free energy sources such as solar, wind, or geo-thermal energy aren’t capable to meet the heating, cooling and electrical demands of Co-Op City.

Simple solution is for Co-op City to “demand” less. They should give up their A/C in the summer, their heating in the winter. Cooking is bourgeoise, just eat ze bugs raw. They should adapt their lives to the government ration of energy.

Co-Op City may be an ideal candidate for the experimental (for now) bore-hole nuclear reactor system. Since surface land is at a premium, going vertical is an ideal answer. Dunno about water availability, although its obvious proximity to water means that cooling shouldn't be a major issue. It could be possible to bore multiple holes on the property to increase generation capacity. And while not renewable per se, it's very dense fuel with no emissions other than heat and cart-away fission products.

My wife and I just came home from visiting her family in China, we spent three weeks traveling the country by train. The only “green” power generating station that I saw was a small wind farm on the NE edge of Beijing that probably covered about 100 acres. I’m guessing that it is a demonstration facility to sell wind turbines to stupid Americans and Europeans.
Throughout the rest of the country, there are numerous very large nuclear and coal fired generating stations. Obviously, the Chinese haven’t bought into the green energy madness.
