SARASOTA, Fla. - Florida authorities say a woman is under arrest after she was asleep behind the wheel with her Tesla stopped in the middle of Interstate 75.
According to state police, Kimberly Brown, 37, was found around 2 a.m. on I-75 on Friday, April 24, intoxicated at nearly twice the legal limit.
Florida State Trooper Kenn Watson called the situation very dangerous, as Brown should not have been driving.
“Unfortunately, she was intoxicated more than twice the legal limit and had made the assumption that the Tesla would get her home safely,” Watson said.
Authorities said Brown was using the vehicle’s Autopilot feature.
According to Alistair Weaver, editor at Edmunds, part of Tesla’s Autopilot safety features includes eye detection, which makes sure the driver is alert.
“You must pay attention. They’re actually monitors within the vehicle that make sure that you’re looking forward and will initially warn you, and then ultimately shut down the car and shut down the system if you’re not paying attention,” Weaver said.
Troopers said the eye detection feature is the reason why Brown’s vehicle ultimately came to a halt.
Authorities note this should serve as a reminder to all drivers to use autopilot features for what they’re intended for: an assist tool.
Waymo uses a full lidar array to build a 3d model of its surroundings. Tesla uses mostly standard cameras to do the same.
Waymo’s system is more accurate but also waymo expensive.
Was there crazy laughter from another room when she was around??? Did she drive herself to madness with a silver spoon? Inquiring minds would like to know…
The headline should have started with “Florida Woman”. Florida Man and Florida Woman are a media institution by this point. :P
I thought.....Oh My!
Wrong. As of Feb 2026, you can subscribe to an optional Level 2 package called "Full Self-Driving".
LOL…Very nearly.
Me either. She was always up to no good.

You just couldn’t resist, LOL!
JohnnyCab will get you home now.
Hossenfelder has some excellent videos on YouTube..
Yes, but that is not Autopilot. Grok is your friend on this one.
If you can put your destination in while in your driveway and never touch the wheel to get there, imma call it FSD.
