SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Sioux City officials and family members have revealed that two-time heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman was laid to rest in a Northwest Iowa cemetery a year ago.
The Texas native didn’t have ties to Iowa; instead, he fell in love with its beauty and peace when he drove through the state in 1988.
Foreman never forgot Iowa following that trip, telling family members he wanted to be buried in the state. According to the family, Foreman often spoke of the area’s landscape, including the Loess Hills, and the sense of peace he felt during that visit.
“He talked about driving through after the Olympics and really seeing the heart of America, he said this is what it’s all about,” said George Foreman IV. A son of George Foreman. “Why Iowa? He never would tell us why. But now that we’re here, we get to see the hills and see the water and meet the people. Now I know exactly why he picked Iowa.”

They were formed when the glaciers melted away, and the remaining dust/dirt from under the glaciers were blown into big dunes on the east side of the Missouri. At certain times of the year it actually quite a pretty scene. It appears George was buried in a cemetery that is on one of the Loess Hills with a nice overlook. To me it is not unlike a lot of Appalachia. But it is just fine silt instead of a rocky mountainous area.

Several years ago my sister-in-law gave me a George Foreman grill for Christmas. I have cooked thousands of meals on it.
Thank you for posting that very powerful testimony, of George Foreman.
We had one for years. Nice & quick to make a burger if time was of the essence. The maker’s first approached Hulk Hogan and he declined. Made George $500M.

Some years ago on a trip to St. Louis from Chicago on I-55, I noticed a small cemetery, with cedar trees, probably a family cemetery or that of a country church, off in the middle of a corn field, and thought that would be a nice, peaceful place to rest. Unfortunately, I don’t remember exactly where it was. Another good spot would be the place where generations of my family are buried in Randolph County, Illinois. Thirty years ago, on the way home from my uncle’s funeral at another cemetery, I stopped there to visit all the old folks. I walked the cemetery for about an hour, and not one single car passed by, even though the cemetery is on a main road in a very rural county. Nice. I haven’t made any plans yet, but that might be an option.

He was a great businessman.
However, did it really take six reporters to write this nice little tribute?

They extend into Missouri. Opposite Nebraska is The Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge. Indeed they are very scenic. George was right to be buried there. And we get sneered at for being fly-over country. Last laugh is on them.
Which George Foreman? He had about 9 kids he named George Foreman, right?
Loess Hills in western Iowa are eastern-most range of the prairie rattlesnake.
