Rep. Brandon Gill is picking a public fight with fellow House Republicans over immigration, torching the DIGNIDAD Act as “mass amnesty” and daring its backers to say out loud what he says the bill does.
“The Dignity Act is mass amnesty and would constitute a terrible betrayal of our voters,” Gill wrote on X, after GOP lawmakers, including Rep. Mike Lawler of New York, talked up renewed interest in the proposal. Gill then turned his fire directly at the bill’s supporters: “If your bill were so popular, you’d be straightforward about what it does. The DIGNIDAD Act provides mass amnesty to over 10 million illegal aliens.”
He added, “I’ll be clear about what I want: mass deportations. Will you be equally straightforward and admit DIGNIDAD is an amnesty bill?”
The DIGNIDAD Act, H.R. 4393, is a sweeping immigration package that creates a legalization-style program for certain illegal immigrants who have been in the United States for years, paired with enforcement and system changes. The legislation was introduced in the House in 2025 and remains a live flashpoint inside a GOP conference that ran on border security and tougher enforcement.
Conservatives who oppose the bill argue that any legal status for people who entered the country illegally is amnesty in a new wrapper, and they say it clashes with what Republican voters demanded after years of record border chaos. Supporters counter that it is not a blank check, pointing to background checks, fines and eligibility rules, and arguing it forces people “out of the shadows” while prioritizing removals for criminals.
That argument did not calm the base, and it did not calm Gill.
He blasted the broader direction of the proposal, writing: “The ‘DIGNIDAD Act’ gives legal status to ~12 million illegal aliens, massively increases legal immigration, and expands work visas that replace American workers and undercut wages. Use all the euphemistic generalizations you want, but it’s still an amnesty bill.”
Gill also framed the moment as a direct test of Republican promises after 2024, “The reality is that mass migration is wrecking our working class, tearing apart America’s social fabric, and making our communities unrecognizable. And this bill only makes it worse. Our voters want their country back. They voted for mass deportations, and that’s what we owe them.”
Salazar, the bill’s face in Congress, hit back online and insisted critics are mischaracterizing the measure, describing it as enforcement-first and rejecting the claim that it’s a giveaway. “This is enforcement first: zero tolerance for criminals, permanent border security, and hard, earned requirements to step forward and face the law, so American workers are protected, not undercut,” she wrote.
She also pushed back on Gill’s framing, writing “Amnesty is the chaos you’ve defended, millions in the shadows, no control, no accountability, and a system that stopped working a long time ago. No shortcuts. No giveaways. No blanket forgiveness. That’s law and order. That’s DIGNITY.”
The dustup is now spilling beyond two members trading punches on social media. Conservative groups are using the clash to pressure Republicans who they say are trying to “rebrand” legalization as reform. One such group, Republican National Conservative, accused GOP lawmakers of ignoring the message voters sent and said: “The American people didn’t vote for freebies for illegals, more excuses, immigration loopholes, or a safety net for people who came here illegally and stayed here illegally. Voters actually did the complete opposite, and voted to undo the disaster Joe Biden created when he blew the border wide open and turned the country into a free-for-all.”
The group also aimed at Lawler by name, saying “Mike Lawler is pretending he is not pushing amnesty while pushing amnesty. And the GOP base should be asking one simple question: after everything this country has been put through on immigration, why is a Republican helping Democrats by cutting illegals a break?”

Good first Brandon Gill! He’s a true patriot.
Good one.
Salazar et al started the “feud”.
The bill needs to be stopped and stopped now...
Lawler’s an azzhole. Sid Rosenberg on WABC always has that twerp on. He tries to sound like he’s some kind of no nonsense tough guy. Whingey low T loser. Total RINO.
Is the picture of a historic figure who immigrated to France, Italy and the Vatican intended to ridicule the process....or what?
No. It was intended to portray a patriot opposed to an abusive and corrupt entity...even at the cost of his life. Don’t overthink it.
All these “knives in DJT’s back” were clearly forecast, here, in November 2024, post-election...
The GOP truly lives up to its historical reputation...
Everyone likes to say that “elections have consequences.”
The one important consequence it does not have is implementing the start of a process to restore the Republic...
It is absolutely clear, with this second-term treasonous strategy by the GOP to piss in the faces of the patriots who elected DJT, that there is only one option remaining that has any possibility of restoring at least a small semblance of the freedoms and liberties we have lost...
That option is the permanent elimination, with prejudice, of all enemies of the Republic...
It’s clear the GOP wants to go back to normal and crush MAGA like they crushed the Tea Party. The managerial class, which is maybe 15% of the country, wants its own party. Pay to play.
For those in Congress who would vote for this amnesty issue, it is essentially treason & they should be prosecuted to the very fullest extent of the law & even a little extra.
Every Democrat will vote for it. Only a few Republican traitors needed to pass.
The simple fact that the title of the bill is in Spanish should give you your first clue!
Yes, they are sellouts!
We don’t need that. Article I and section 5 of the 14th are more than enough.
