Anthony Buhl, March Wallin Chadwick, accused of illegal gator possession
wo tourists are facing felony charges after Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers said they strapped a dead alligator to the roof of their vehicle and drove it across Central Florida.
Anthony Buhl, 56, of New York City, and March Wallin Chadwick, 57, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, were arrested Saturday on U.S. Highway 192 near St. Johns Heritage Parkway in Melbourne.
According to FWC arrest reports, the pair was first spotted driving through Celebration with the alligator — described as roadkill — strapped to the roof of their vehicle. License plate readers tracked the car heading eastbound, and a second hit was recorded near Harmony in St. Cloud, where the gator was still on the roof but had since been covered with a white sheet.

“Sorry, Yer Honor, but that gator was the only one of us sober enough to drive.”
Maybe not as unusual as the Florida man who tried to rob a fast food restaurant with his weapon of choice...an alligator.
Reminds me of the time (1978) we strapped a large Apalichicola National Forest sign we found while four wheeling in the forest onto the top of my car using jumper cables to affix it to said roof. As we were about to leave Tallahassee a Trooper pulled up beside us and smiled. We smiled back and laughed all the way back to Gainesville. It made a wonderful college dining table.
I don’t see a problem with it. I thought Florida was a free state?
Without a law explicitly giving you permission, you can be ordered to stop doing it by the police.
They have been charged with illegal killing and the statute they’ve been charged under states, “intentional killing” so I don’t think it was roadkill.
“...a game animal you aren’t allowed to have it in possession without a permit.?
As far as I can find, there are no alligators in Australia. If this was a migrant one, he sure can swim as the nearest ones are in China.

Sorry, misread the location thinking Melbourne, Australia.

“...They have been charged with illegal killing...”
Was the arrow still in it?

In Miami thirty years ago, police stopped a speeding Audi with two Hispanic males. Arrested for their 100MPH speed, an inventory of their towed car found a dead human body in the trunk. No charges could be brought because there was no Florida law regarding this behavior.
Ah. Good call.
‘Poke Salad Annie’ would be another good song for this thread. “CHOMP! CHOMP!”
When finally stopped by the police, the driver said “call me Amos Moses”
