81-year-old lifelong Dodgers fan left devastated by brutal new policy

The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing hardball with their most loyal fans, and this time, the boys in blue are looking more like corporate bullies.

Despite half a century of loyalty — long before the era of QR codes — the Dodgers flat-out refused to provide Segal with paper tickets for the 2026 season, effectively shutting him out of games.

Holding up a relic of a flip phone that definitely doesn’t support the MLB Ballpark app, Segal told local reporters that he doesn’t have an iPhone. In fact, he doesn’t know how to use a computer.

An iron-fisted “digital-only” policy seems to be the issue — which the Dodgers refused to waive even after Segal offered to pay extra for the privilege of a paper ticket.

“If I had the tickets one year, five years, 10 years, that’s another story,” Segal told a local outlet. “Fifty years I’ve had these tickets. They threw me under the bus.”

For the first time in decades, the devoted fan is considering skipping games entirely — even after being offered a refund for his seats.

“I said, ‘That’s not fair,'” Segal recalled, rejecting the team’s buyback offer.

The Dodgers, currently valued at an estimated $7.8 billion to $8 billion, apparently couldn’t accommodate a man who has supported them through thick and thin.

The longtime South LA business owner said he was still able to purchase a paper ticket at the stadium for a single game, but the team still won’t provide printed tickets for the full season.

I've just recently encounterd a similar IT related issue like this.

HealthEquity is a website used to get medical refunds. In times past it was a simple username/password login to access their website, but now you have to use a passcode, and if you're trying to use a PC you have to have a "hardware token," basically a USB stick with whatever information they require on it.

If you have a smartphone, which I got, you can get logged on via that pretty easily, but I use my PC for stuff like this. I went round and round with the website for an hour or so last week and I got so frustrated I quit, downloaded some forms instead, and mailed that it just today to get my payments.

All that to say, this kind of crap is getting ridiculous. I know, this is all a lead up to total digital IDs, Mark of the Beast, stuff. We are now in an age where our rights are being taken away because we won't tow the "digital line" and that Dodgers fan is reaping the consequences of IT advancement where our rights mean nothing.

Yeah, the local private bus and public transit in CA have transitioned from pay as you board and now they are requiring a ~$800 smart phone to buy a ticket or you get no transportation. Being physically disabled leaves me with no transportation to shopping or medical appts. (I have neighbors that have Obama cheap phones and they don’t work with those apps on their phone.)

““brutal” pffft.”

and “devastated”!

At 81 you’d think he’d have grown up enough to where a silly game would not be a that important to him.

Watch on TV if you’re really that addicted!

Well I’m still miffed over them leaving Vero Beach as their spring training site.

Years ago fake tickets would have been harder to pass off as genuine if a person bothered to take a close look.

“That’s her problem it if you can’t hang on to a piece of paper. Still safer than a phone. Drop your phone same thing happens if the wrong person picks it up, it is gone.”

Thanks for admitting paper is not ‘safe’.

With the phone I have backups and recovery techniques. All is not lost.

Paper tickets can be counterfeited. When you buy from scalpers at the game, you run the risk of buying fake tickets.

And like in all classic cons the victims think they are putting one over on the system. Even if their motives are understandable such as regular ticket prices being so outrageous. This does not make the guilty just more gullible.

I’ve become neurotic about remaining battery on my phone. Battery runs out and you are screwed!

My son and I went to a Thai restaurant a few nights ago and they wanted you to order with the QR code. I asked for paper menus and we got them. Typical long Asian menu with pages and pages of items to choose from. Doing that on the phone is HUTE PITA.

The Asian waitress’ English wasn’t that great. She asked “You want to use me?” LOL. It took us a moment to figure out she was asking “Do you want to order with me?”
