Olympic fans shocked by ‘insane’ hidden charge for LA28 tickets
NY Post ^ | 4/04/26 | Katie Jerkovich

Fans scrambling to secure LA28 tickets are getting a nasty surprise at checkout – with hundreds of dollars in fees suddenly tacked onto their orders.

The first drop of presale tickets for locals to attend the 2028 Summer Olympics dropped on Thursday and Angelenos couldn’t believe the final purchase price included a whopping 24% service fee.

Tickets to the highly-anticipated Games start at just $28 but can cost as much as $2,000 depending on the event or the package.

So tickets packages to see the prestigious track and field gold medal events cost from $2,350 to $8,250 for premium seats.

Lori Rovner of Manhattan Beach told the LAIst she was finally able to purchase tickets to the games after receiving several “access denied” messages.

Her total for 16 tickets was $2,604.63, with the tickets costing $2,100, with a service fee of $504.63.

“It’s insane,” Rovner said. “I don’t understand what the service is.”

One user on Reddit’s Olympics thread shared a screenshot of their cart. They purchased ten tickets to five different events, for swimming, basketball and soccer. The total cost for all of it was more than $11,000.

But it was the service fee that really stood out, costing them $1,038.22.

One think I don’t like about Trump is him going along with teh Wall Street Republicans on antitrust enforcement. I’m more populist Teddy Roosevelt on that issue.

“And the high speed rail cost to get there.”

They should cut that cost as the passengers have to get out and push. (So much for high speed) Only 171 miles of the 494 miles is currently under construction under phase 1. But there’s good news, 463 miles of it it is all environmentally cleared and construction ready. So they have a lot of dirt. And even if they get it completed, with the little time they have and the need for cutting costs to get it done, parts and labor, at least by pushing it the passengers won’t be on it when it jumps the track at 2 feet per passenger speed. (If they can get a full train to push and the national guard, the Campfire Girls, and the firemen/women as they don’t have anything to do with no water.)

AXS has the contract for ticketing and they are adding the 25% service fee.

This is exactly why monopolies are broken up.

AXS has the contract for ticketing and they are adding the 25% service fee.

This is a per-ticket fee (sometimes called a convenience fee/web charge) that is shared between us and our clients. The portion we keep helps us cover the costs involved in running our business and offering you the ability to purchase tickets online, or through our app or phone service.

But they have others:

Order Processing Fee

This is a per-order fee, and our portion helps cover costs associated with receiving and confirming ticket orders.

Delivery Fee

This is a per-order fee that’s based on the selected delivery method (USPS, Will Call, e-ticket, etc.) . Not all delivery methods are available for each event, and there’s no delivery fee for AXS Mobile ID.

Facility Fee

Each client will determine if a facility fee is required. When one is, we collect and submit that fee to them.

Resale Fee

This is a per-ticket fee (sometimes called a buyer connection or buyer fee) for resale tickets only. This fee is shared between us and each client and the portion we keep helps us cover the costs involved in running our business and offering you the ability to purchase tickets online, including through AXS Official Resale.

The Olympics only come to LA when the IOC can’t find somone else that can almost afford it. Gotta get those tamales while they’re hot.

“Do you have to tip on top of that?”

Nice! And it wouldn’t surprised me if you have to tip the DEIs for their ‘hospitality’.

It will be interesting comparing the 1984 non-DEI LA Olympics (which was 110% successful, to the point of making a huge profit), with the 2028 DEI-run Olympics, with all of the DEIs trying to get their piece of the action.

Back in 1984, the mayor, who was DEI (and, of course, corrupt as hell), simply got out of the way and let the non-DEI guy run the whole show - and they both came out looking like heroes (lesson for DEIs: Just get out of the way and let competent non-DEIs do the real decision making and you’ll win in the end).

There was no admission charge to view the ancient Olympic Games in Greece, as they were a religious festival held in honor of Zeus. Spectators sat on the sloping, grassy, and unreserved flanks of the stadium for free, primarily bringing their own food and supplies.

The event was free, relying on civic funding and patronage. The venue was a sacred site with temples in Olympia. While entrance was free, the journey to the sanctuary of Olympia, which had no permanent population, was a pilgrimage.

The ancient Greeks initiated the Olympic Games in 776 BC at Olympia, a sanctuary site dedicated to Zeus, the king of their gods. Although the Olympics we see today differ from the ones celebrated by the Ancient Greek Empire, the Olympics highlight passion and extraordinary feats of athletic prowess.

Peter Ueberroth, about as non-DEI as a person could get. He’d have trouble being hired as a janitor with this bunch now running things.

Screw LA and its “olympics.” Buy some NHL and AHL hockey tickets instead.
