ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A pediatric nurse who worked at Presbyterian Hospital in downtown Albuquerque has been arrested and is accused of possessing, selling and trading child pornography videos online.
Blade Rogers, 29, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center after being charged with possession of a visual medium of sexual exploitation of a child under the age of 13.
He was set to appear before a judge Thursday afternoon, but his first appearance was postponed due to medical reasons.
In early February, instant messaging company Kik alerted the New Mexico Department of Justice that one of its users had sent or received child pornography videos
According to court documents, Kik is known for features preserving users' anonymity. A username is the only unique identifier in their system and is the only way to identify a unique Kik account.
Kik recorded an IP address for the incident, and it was learned that the IP address was serviced by Comcast Cable. After a grand jury subpoena, Comcast identified the subscriber of its account with an address, phone number and a Google email address, which agents traced back to Rogers.
According to the criminal complaint, Kik reported that the user had sent multiple videos of child sexual abuse on its app. Some are as short as nine seconds, while others are more than a minute long. But each video contains young children ranging in age from about 5 years old to roughly 13 years old, according to a criminal complaint.
Law enforcement believes Rogers used the Kik account to trade and sell the explicit videos to other users on the app. A search warrant showed multiple messages between Rogers' account and unknown users.
Federal agents conducted a search warrant at Rogers' home and searched through his phone in early April. According to court documents, Rogers told agents that he used several social media apps, but failed to mention Kik.
But when agents went through his phone, they discovered the Kik messaging app, and in it, they viewed a video depicting child pornography.
"It is deeply disturbing to learn that an individual entrusted to work with children is accused of possessing such illegal material," Attorney General Raúl Torrez said. "While every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty, the circumstances surrounding this arrest shake the sense of trust that families place in those who care for their kids. Our office will continue to act swiftly and decisively whenever that trust is betrayed, and we remain unwavering in our commitment to protecting the safety and dignity of every child in New Mexico."
Rogers was a pediatric nurse at Presbyterian, but has since been fired. A spokesperson for the hospital told KOAT they learned about Rodgers' arrest on Thursday.
It’s a mental illness, and should be studied to figure out how it happens and whether there are any commonalities and/or clues. Horrible.
“Why do you work as a pediatric nurse?
Because that’s where the kids are.”
Exactly. I firmly believe that any adult male who puts himself in a position to be around kids other than his own should be watched very closely.
Thanks for the correction...my aging brain sometimes has to grasp for the proper word.
Wasn’t so much correcting you as info for others. You always post great things.
I don’t mind being corrected when I goof up - but there’s a number here who try to do it when they’re wrong....BTW - I always enjoy your humor posts....I usually repost some of them on other sites for a few feel-good moments amid all the crap in the world.
That’s nice. Thank you!
