As a 1st through 3rd grader (1960s) this was the norm.
As a matter of fact the parents were encouraged to send a small pillow to school with their kid to make it more comfortable.

Yes. When I was a kid, SO many years ago, we took naps in our schools. (Not for TWO hours though.) We had small throw rugs to put on the desks for our heads. Everybody benefited by this.
Kindergarten only here.
Think it was for 30 minutes.
Not after that though.
I went to grammar school in Rochester, NY in the 50's. I don't recall our rest times going past Kindergarten. We did have a snack break, but you had to bring your own snacks. My mother always gave me saltine crackers with a little butter on them.
Where the HELL was that the NORM?? I went to a 2 room Catholic school and we NEVER took a nap!! We didn’t even take one in KINDERGARTEN!
We had nap time in kindergarten. That was it.
We took a rug to lay on
