Most citizens pay attention to government warnings about places to visit. American has some “no go” zones, I don’t go there. we know about them from local knowledge.
Examples
” Gun Violence (General): Japan, among others, has warned its citizens to be aware of the prevalence of firearms in the U.S. and potential incidents, notes Condé Nast Traveler.
US-Mexico Border: Canada advises against non-essential travel to border areas at night, citing drug trafficking and organized crime incidents, according to CNN.
Specific Incidents/Rights: Some nations have highlighted potential issues with medical care costs, civil unrest, or specific risks to travelers with certain gender markers or international backgrounds, as noted by NewsNation and Reddit.
Legal Compliance: The UK has specifically warned its citizens to strictly comply with US entry regulations to avoid detention, notes Fodors Travel Guide. “
There is a thriving gay community in the area that this article says they went. The two flight attendants were male and female. They went to a popular bar and were approached by two men and struck up a conversation. At some point, they changed locations -- possibly suggesting to go see what a Columbian gay bar is like. I'm not suggesting a promiscuity play here, just a gay tourist curious about a gay bar in a popular foreign city.
This is a common playbook in Medellin and has the hallmarks of, in this case, a gay honeypot scheme. First, they were targeted because they were flight attendants on a layover. Criminals know that flight attendants stay at very specific hotels and don't have any local connections; if one went missing it wouldn't be discovered until the person failed to show up for their flight.
Second, they probably roofied them at the first bar, giving the woman a lower dose than the man. As they were walking to the second bar, the drugs began to take effect; the woman was impaired but functional and likely just abandoned, while the man was taken to the second location where the crime occurred (likely robbery because flight attendants are known to carry cash for overnight meals and entertainment).
Third, the woman awakens hours later with no memory of what had happened, and takes awhile before she realizes that her coworker is missing. If both were taken in the night, and both went missing, that would have been noticed more quickly and a high alert would have gone out. One missing flight attendant would take much longer to be discovered.
The body was found, just not yet publicly identified.
