The once mighty Royal Navy is but a shadow of its former self, reduced to a tiny handful of often broken warships by generations of political mismanagement. This was cruelly exposed recently when Britain found it difficult to dispatch at short notice a single destroyer to Cyprus following an attack on the British base there.

I don’t know. But why should any of them (including the UK) bother to put money in their navies? They know that if push comes to shove, the US Navy will bail them out.
Fortunately, Trump is working to change that mindset. It remains to be seen how successful he’ll be.

The Royal Navy in WW1
During WW1, the Royal Navy had 20 submarines in active service. Today they have zero submarines (active and inactive).
Paying for millions of asylum seekers from 154 different countries is expensive.
