That feed cost would have to be pretty high for that. We go to the local butcher shop for our bacon, beef and chicken. No hormones, grass fed and I have no clue on the bacon. Expensive but I’m supporting my local economy too.

We have pasture land, so the steer is 3/4 grass fed. In fact, he’s back on grass today already! He goes to ‘The Spa’ in April. He’s about 1,300 pounds right now - we’re shooting for 1,500 finished weight, so he’ll get grain mix and hay along with what he grazes.

When all is said and done, it usually runs us about $3.50/# for all cuts. Even at $5.00/# it would be a bargain!

The hog was a little more pricey, but he doesn’t use the processor that we use. ;)

And you’re right - Keep It Local - when you can! :)
