I think Trump should endorse Cornyn when he gets Thune and Johnson to deliver passage of the SAVA act, and a bona fide recess at the time of the upcoming break, so Trump can make a slew of recess appointments
I would be OK with that. Especially if Paxton replaced Bondi.
I wonder if Trump was mad about Paxton changing his mind (about withdrawing if SAVE passes) because it sets the stage for conservatives to feel betrayed by the deal. I can’t help but think that the voters are sort of overlooked in this process, but I think it’s basically Trump using leverage to offer Texans the “best bang for their buck”. Paxton as AG and the SAVE Act passing, in return for them holding their noses and voting for Cornyn rather than letting Talarico win because of the circular firing squad. There’s always the hope that both Thune and Cornyn would come out of it feeling a bit obliged (and maybe a bit shamed by the real fighters actually doing what is best for the country.
