MICHELLE Obama is under fire for missing Jesse Jackson’s funeral – even though it’s in her hometown of Chicago.
The former first lady has been noticeably absent from many political events in the past few years.
Her husband, former president Barack Obama, was present, as well as Bill and Hillary Clinton, Joe and Jill Biden, and Kamala Harris.
“Michelle Obama is FROM Chicago — but she’s not there. Seems very odd,” a social media user said.
“Michelle was busy again?” another said.
The former first lady was similarly criticized for skipping the funeral of Jimmy Carter in January 2025.
Her conspicuous absence sparked rumors that she and Barack were divorcing.
Michelle addressed the rumor in April, saying that people “couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
“I chose to do what’s best for me, not what I had to do,” she said of skipping the event.
In Obama’s statement following Jackson’s death in February, the former president noted Michelle’s personal connection to the reverend.
“Michelle got her first glimpse of political organizing at the Jacksons’ kitchen table when she was a teenager,” Obama wrote.
“Michelle and I will always be grateful for Jesse’s lifetime of service, and the friendship our families share.”
Obama and Biden both gave speeches testifying to Jackson’s strength as a political leader.
Harris, who was Biden’s replacement after he dropped out of the 2024 presidential election, was notably seated at the opposite end of the row from the former president.
More like Lazy Again.
Big Mike wants to fly around the world and get free stuff.
There can be no good way for her to be the center of attention at Jesse Jackson’s funeral. So why would she go?
No. His mother was an expat. Barack is a Carpetbagger. He moved to Chicago after college for the radical politics.
I do not know if he has a hometown... Keyna? Indonesia? Canada? Hawaii?
The Robinson lady IS the one from Chicago. Grandfather was Deep in Chicago politics.
Jesse loved to be the center of attention. He is getting it but cant enjoy it any longer.
