SEN RAND PAUL: America is at war—but Americans didn’t vote for it
Fox News (Digital) ^ | March 8 | Senator Rand Paul

Posted on 03/06/2026 5:27:04 AM PST by RandFan

Once war begins and American soldiers are under fire, a rational discussion of the pros and cons of war becomes nearly impossible. That is exactly why our Founders wrote a Constitution that demands a debate before the initiation of war.

But there was no debate in Congress, let alone a vote. On Feb. 28, Americans awoke to discover that their country was once again embroiled in a war in the Middle East.

Americans were not asked if they would bear the burdens of war. Instead, the American people were told, through a presidential eight-minute video posted around 2:30 in the morning, that the country was, once again, at war.

And because there was no national discussion about going to war, we do not know whether ground troops will be used. We have no idea how long the war will last. We have no idea who will lead Iran after the death of the supreme leader. And we have no idea how many casualties the American people are supposed to tolerate. We cannot know the answer to these questions because no one bothered to make the case that war with Iran was worth the sacrifice.

The Senate is only now debating whether hostilities should end after they’ve already begun. Before I discuss the merits of this war, I want to say that my prayers, and those of my family, are with the troops in the region, those in combat and anyone who may be called to serve.

I do not take lightly that combat has begun, that many have been severely injured, and that lives have been lost.

McConnell, Paul, and Massie are definitely 3 RINOS from Kentucky.

“America is at war—but Americans didn’t vote for it “

Which is true, but this was necessary. When the monster is down, then you need to deliver the coup-de-grace

Remind me again, what action did Paul demand Congress take against Fauci, after he proved he was a charlatan and a liar.

RandPaul is, at best, a libertarian...IOW, a kook unable to grasp reality!

“the cic is there to make decisions, at times tough decisions. Iran was vulnerable, the Iranian people are angry. Waiting would have given the Iran government time to increase their capability while killing even more of their people.”

sooo true

It is stupid argument. Maybe we should tell them exactly where we will attack ahead of time as well. Debate in the Senate is the same as doing nothing ever.

I believe that the POTUS should act in the best interests of the United States. He was elected for that purpose, and he has a time before he must address Congress if he wishes to pursue a war. Currently, that is 60 days. I don’t feel that is an unreasonable time.

However, as this President nears completion of the mission, likely within 60 days. He should present it to Congress so that they can vote on it. Every Democrat should be on Record to vote against a war on Iran, a nation that has repeatedly attacked Americans, American interests, and declared war on American every year for 47 years, in front of the American people.

The Iranian Mullahs and Radicals only have really two allies remaining in this conflict, the United Nations and American Democrats, and this should be paraded in front of the American people.

How many Senators and Congressmen are being paid by Iran? These folks sadly have been part of the Iranian Defense Strategy - Stop Trump before he finishes the job. I certainly saw this during Vietnam. I had many classmates and friends that paid the ultimate price. So, Paul, serve your master well, but STFU! Rand Paul is correct - we are at war, but not the war he thinks.

“Is that what stage 4 libertarianism looks like?”

Nope, just libertarianism. It’s horrible on foreign policy. Much more in alignment with deep staters and the Democrat party, as their votes make clear.

Rand’s point is it (debate) should happen before action is taken

That “Debate” can further endanger American Servicepeople and wars the Enemy. So no, I don’t agree with Rand Paul here.

Rand Paul is making believe he doesn’t understand that an executive needs latitude to act as leader and that the law recognizes this and requires he explain things to congress after a time. Congress is happy to let presidents more or less make the decisions and take the heat. Gets them out taking any chances.

Fox News just had on a guest who is from Iran, and he made it very clear that the Iranian people want to be free from the regime that took over their country and made life miserable for them, especially the women.
He fully supported Trump’s actions, and made it clear that so do most of his former country men (and women)!

Since November 1979 I have had a smoldering anger towards the Islamic Republic of Iran, and not once, ever, has that ember of hatred for that stinking Islamic Regime died out. I have never let that go in 47 years.
  • I have waited 47 years for the memory of a charred C-130 and an intact CH-53 at Desert One to fade.

  • I have waited 47 years for retribution against some Iranian cleric who poked at the remains of one of our war dead with a pocket knife.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we didn't ignore them.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we didn't appease them.

  • I have waited 47 years to not have an expectation of a Democrat President bowing in subservience to those beastly Islamic pieces of crap.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day I didn't wonder how many Iranian F-14 Tomcats were still airworthy.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we didn't dread turning on the news to discover some terrorist attack from their proxies with an accompanying idiotic Islamic justification.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day I didn't have to see their government officials on television in robes on their bodies and turbans, or their black suits and white shirts with no ties as they tell us how they are going to destroy us.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we didn't allow them to take prisoners of US Navy personnel.

  • I have waited 47 years to wonder if today would not be another day I would see American Democrats (including many self-proclaimed pious and craven "conservatives") siding with those Islamic scumbags against their own Country.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we didn't wonder if they have a nuclear weapon already.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we didn't send them pallets of cash.

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we didn't wonder about where their diesel submarines were.

  • I have waited 47 years or the day I don't have to see and hear crowds egged on by Iran shouting "Death To America".

  • I have waited 47 years for the day we don't have to hear their putrid, arrogant voices threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz.

For this day, making all of these things at least a possibility 47 years later, I don't thank gutless American politicians on all sides who just went along to get along for 47 years and not make waves. I don't thank the UN and our NATO "allies" who sided with the tyannical, brutal, and lawless Iranian government at every turn. I don't thank the American Left who never, in 47 years, found themselves at odds or disagreement with Iranian Mullahs.

I thank President Donald J. Trump for this opportunity to put to rest these things I have waited 47 years for.

I thank Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for stopping the flooding of DEI into our military, and advocating for a focused, lethal military bent solely on destroying enemies of this Republic, as well as those in our military who have taken these reforms to heart and carried the war to our enemy, who has been at war with us for the past 47 years.

I thank Secretary of State Marco Rubio who has been sober and singleminded in his expression of our national intent in these actions.

And I thank our brave and bold Israeli allies who have suffered under the black cloud of Iranian threats to destroy them for the last 47 years, and never, ever stopped fighting back, and never, ever compromised with Iranian evil to buy a faux safety.

Israel has always recognized Iran as an existential threat.

As America should have done each and every day since November 4th, 1979.

President Trump is the man in charge. He was elected by the majority of Americans. Now he is to be trusted when it comes to using the armed forces.....not undermined.

That ship has sailed.

After the last two debacle of Iraq and Afghanistan, the idea that we should take a President's word on anything is laughable.

Trump needed to show the receipts. A week ago.

“The voters made President Trump the commander in chief, not Rand Paul.”

That pesky Constitution requires Congress to declare war before the president can prosecute war as Commander in Chief.

You might also recall Trump ran on a platform of no wars. The voters voted for no wars, not for a major conflict. The voters certainly did not vote for the US attacking other nations.
