Once war begins and American soldiers are under fire, a rational discussion of the pros and cons of war becomes nearly impossible. That is exactly why our Founders wrote a Constitution that demands a debate before the initiation of war.
But there was no debate in Congress, let alone a vote. On Feb. 28, Americans awoke to discover that their country was once again embroiled in a war in the Middle East.
Americans were not asked if they would bear the burdens of war. Instead, the American people were told, through a presidential eight-minute video posted around 2:30 in the morning, that the country was, once again, at war.
And because there was no national discussion about going to war, we do not know whether ground troops will be used. We have no idea how long the war will last. We have no idea who will lead Iran after the death of the supreme leader. And we have no idea how many casualties the American people are supposed to tolerate. We cannot know the answer to these questions because no one bothered to make the case that war with Iran was worth the sacrifice.
The Senate is only now debating whether hostilities should end after they’ve already begun. Before I discuss the merits of this war, I want to say that my prayers, and those of my family, are with the troops in the region, those in combat and anyone who may be called to serve.
I do not take lightly that combat has begun, that many have been severely injured, and that lives have been lost.

We have to bear with him for three more years.
Rand Paul is like our conscience - endlessly pissing us off, but doesn’t go away.
Rand Paul is our big “let’s debate things forever” senator, never accomplishing anything. Pushover pansy. All hat, no cattle.
Rand is seditious, insisting we have a public debate and a vote prior to actually implementing kinetic actions against the enemy is literally telegraphing your intent and giving them time to prepare.
So basically, Rand wants to ensure the enemy can maximize American casualties in such conflict by having time to prepare, and you support him.
How are things in China, or wherever it is you post from?
Yes we did
It’s amazing how often smart people can be so stupid. We elected a commander-in-chief. No one I know would vote for more war, HOWEVER, the cic is there to make decisions, at times tough decisions. Iran was vulnerable, the Iranian people are angry. Waiting would have given the Iran government time to increase their capability while killing even more of their people.
The Trump administration made a tough call, I trust them. President Trump is not a war hawk, like Lindsey Graham, (among others).
“Rand’s point is it (debate) should happen before action is taken”
Then he has no point. He’s just whining. Do you really think there would be anything positive coming from “debate” that included Dems? Yeah, it all would have gone much better if we had the input from the likes of Swalwell, Schiff, AOC and Talib.
Yeah, no secret has EVER been leaked to our enemies by congress or their thousands of flunkies and donors. I don’t doubt Runt Paul was included in the reasons why ‘we don’t dare tell congress beforehand’ decision.
“ Rand’s point is it (debate) should happen before action is taken”
Debate
In Congress
Is that in the constitution?
Do people ask that question?
Rand Paul is a fool. He knows nothing of why I voted for MAGA. Democrats (and enablers like RP) are all the same. Rand proves it every time he opens his pie-hole.
Americans delegated the decision to go to war to the elected President.
The USA would be in absolute chaos if Rand was in charge.
- Terrorists would go unfettered and unchecked. This clown would have been against the very necessary Crusades.
- There would be 15+ millions voting in our elections and conservatives would never win again.
- There would be 15+ million collecting welfare off taxpayer’s hard earned money.
He thinks he’s so smart that he’s actually an idiot. He ran for president once but made a complete clown of himself. I wouldn’t vote for the clown.
The Pauls side with the squad.
Again.
Rand Paul is a master debater, that’s for sure. It’s the one thing he does plenty of.
Not trying to be contentious, but isn’t it somewhat impossible to run on a “no war” platform and be forced to comply?
There’s no way of knowing what the CIC is going to face. Is he supposed to sit back and not fight if the country is attacked, because he told the voters “no war?”
President Trump, IMHO, is doing exactly as he stated. He said no more of these never-ending wars which have done nothing other than what they were fought for.....to enrich the Military Industrial Complex. Never-ending, years long, purposeless wars that made politicians and their buddies rich.
Following the “no more wars” logic, the country could dismantle the entire Department of War, retire all of the military, and save a lot of money. Then I guess just hope for the best when it comes to surviving its enemies.
President Trump is the man in charge. He was elected by the majority of Americans. Now he is to be trusted when it comes to using the armed forces.....not undermined.
It is not an ideal situation, to be sure. But it beats the hell out of a future report on the TV that would go something like this: “This morning, nuclear devices were detonated over New York, Washington DC and Miami. Dead and wounded are in millions, and many more casualties are expected since our electrical grid has collapsed. Iran is suspected of having launched these weapons, and it is unknown whether additional weapons will be used to attack us again. America is at war after a 21st century Pearl Harbor.”
Trump is protecting this country from what would have been inevitable if this country continued to kick the can down the road regarding Iran. Iran has made no secret of the fact that for the last 47 years we have been “the Great Satan,” and that they would someday act to destroy us. Over this period, they have killed hundreds of Americans, tortured many of our citizens and wounded hundreds more, and been directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of literally millions of people around the world. Why do people try to kid themselves about the nature of this regime? Why do people continue to dismiss the idea that this nation was working on the means to not only deliver nuclear weapons all across the world, but to develop the nuclear weapons themselves? I can’t figure out if it’s cowardice or stupidity, but Donald Trump is not guilty of either of those things.
Yes, Rand, we DID vote for this. We voted to be secure in our homes and to be invulnerable to enemy attack in our homeland.
Can we find a good candidate in KY to Primary this RINO? While we are at it, we need to Primary his fellow KY RINO Massey.
Thankfully, Fetterman’s vote canceled out Paul’s.
I’m totally sick of RP, and have been for so long. It gets worse the longer he’s in there.
The only good thing he’s ever done is expose Anthony Fauci to the world. Not that I didn’t know this about Fauci, but at least a few others caught on.
Absolutely correct. The main reason we elect our leaders/President is to make those decisions for us. Rand Paul thinks hood rats have the intelligence and information to know when it’s time to stop an existential threat? Iranian muslim extremists have been at war with us for over 40 years. Now we have a President that is willing to do something about it with minimum risk to our military. Is Rand really too dumb to see that? Is that what stage 4 libertarianism looks like? I used to have some libertarian leanings, but if it causes acute retardation, I want nothing to do with it.....
