“In the Indian Ocean—an American submarine sunk an Iranian warship, that thought it was safe in international waters.Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo—Quiet Death.
The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War 2. Like in that war—back when we were still the War Department—we are fighting to win."
Grammar police blowing the whistle - sank, not sunk.
The video quits a second or so too soon, but one could infer they ran to the bow and just ran off the bow into the sea!
The three words that best describe you are as follows
And I quote:
“Sink, sank, sunk”
This was against a submarine. A submarine hull is much stronger and you likely won’t break it in half by creating a bubble under the keel. Also, since it is submerged you don’t have an accurate run depth to set the torpedo to run the torpedo under the keel. What you want to do and you do do is a direct hit to penetrate the pressure hull leading to rapid flooding because of the water pressure on a submerged sub. If the torpedo is using its passive homing mode it will home in on the screw noise.
You can see two guys just forward of the bridge who fall to the deck when the torpedo hits, but then you see them descend down a ladder just aft of the forward main mount.
Yup the MK82 is a subsurface and surface weapon. subs are contact kills, surface ships are *usually* keel kills.
“Sighted ship, sank same!”
I get the feeling from that video that seconds before the torp exploded, someone finally yelled a warning.
Why else would they all be topside, headed to the bow? ;-)
Poor SONAR dude had never heard a MK48.
We are living in crazy times.
Crazy is normal. We’ve actually had a relatively peaceful time since the end of WWII.
Unless you count the wars in Vietnam, Iraq, Somalia, Bosnia, Libya and Afghanistan.
Some people on twitter are saying the Secretary of War is wrong and cite the sinking in the Falkland War. They are incorrect. The British did that, not America.
Some are going to argue that the Indian Ocean sinking was a needless escalation, but what was that boat doing there not trying to defend the home turf. Better take it out before the boat causes mischief we hadn’t counted on...like sending off drones that could hurt one of our ships!
Thank you for providing a possible explanation.
Another coral reef will be forming. The twelfth one?
Anohter one for Davy Jone’s locker.
Agreed. I suspect that POTUS has given the order for the entire Inanian navy to be destroyed. 100% eliminated. It’ll take decades for them to threaten Gulf shipping again once we are through.
Their largest sip is frigate class
Medium sized
Blow up the keel, she’s going down. Unless she happens to be named “USS SAMUEL B ROBERTS”.
“Inanian navy”
Typo or not, that’s funny.
Thanks, I’m here all week. Try the veal!
“Their largest sip is frigate class
Medium sized.”
Was. It was medium sized.
