Grok says:

Yes, multiple reports indicate that Ghislaine Maxwell obtained a license (or certification) to pilot submarines or submersibles.

This stems primarily from her involvement with The TerraMar Project, her ocean conservation nonprofit founded in 2012, and her personal interests in marine activities around that time. Sources describe her pursuing certifications in submarine piloting, often alongside her known helicopter pilot license, deep-sea diving, and other related skills.
Key points from reliable and recurring mentions:

- A 2019 New York Times article noted a submarine aboard a yacht (Plan B) associated with her circles, stating she “knew how to pilot” it, tied to her deep-sea diving pursuits.

- Vanity Fair (2020) and other outlets referenced rumors during her time in hiding that she was licensed to pilot a submarine (or submersible vehicles), fueling speculation she might be evading capture underwater.

- Various secondary sources, including biographical discussions, Reddit AMAs by authors researching her life, and even a Grok response on X, affirm she obtained such a license around 2012 in connection with TerraMar’s work.
Some accounts specify it as a certification for “submersibles” or “deep-sea vehicles,” rather than a full military-style submarine command license, as private/personal submersibles often involve specialized training from manufacturers or operators (not always a formal government-issued “pilot’s license” like for aircraft).

There is no public record of an official government-issued submarine pilot license in the same regulated way as aviation (submersibles for civilians typically require operator training/certification from the provider, not a universal Coast Guard or FAA equivalent). However, the claim appears consistently across media reports, books, and discussions about her life and activities.

It’s worth noting this detail often appears in the context of conspiracy theories related to Jeffrey Epstein (e.g., hidden travel or escape rumors), but the certification itself is reported as factual in mainstream outlets like the NYT. No credible source disputes it outright.

Had to look.
there is no universal governing body for submersible pilot licensing.
the teaching facility issues the certification that makes you “licensed”.

kinda like getting\being an internet ordained minister ?
