My older brother told me that when he was in first grade (around '67) in catholic school, a nun had the first grade boys come and watch as she asked the 8th grade boys to confess as to who broke some rule, none did so she walked down the line and slapped each one in the face. Sure left an impression on the 1st graders.
No parents were interested in complaining about it.

My cousins all went to Catholic schools. The boy cousins were always getting abused y the crazy nuns. Paddles rulers etc. I went to public school in the burbs. we had none of that nonsense.
