The families should pay for this. They can apparently afford an approximately 9-day back country skiing trip complete with guides, so if they want the deceased bodies back they should pay for it instead of charging taxpayers for the bill.

They aren’t getting deader. The snow will melt and they can recover the bodies, if they aren’t eaten by coyotes. It is not worth risking the lives of anyone to collect frozen corpses.
